Unbelievably friendly and warm staff who gladly gave expert travel advice and recommendations that only a Roman would normally be privy to. - Loic Diels
I LOVE this website and will gladly recommend it to anyone headed this way. Nothing disappointed us! - Mary-Iris Taylor

A really great idea - with a network of hand picked little rooms/guesthouses. If only we could have this in more city destinations! - Zoe Buck
I love Cross-Pollinate and every time we go to a new city I look to see whether they have some accommodations over there. - Arantza Aldea
The two places I have stayed at from Cross-Pollinate have been among the best across Europe. Highly recommended. - Nicholas Burn
Thanks a lot to Cross-Pollinate for the opportunity to experience a city as an insider! We really enjoyed our stay in Rome and Venice and look forward to more. - Tatiana Marchenko
Cross-Pollinate was very helpful when the owner of the B&B wanted to charge us for the baby under 2 y o. It would have been difficult without them since the owners did not speak any english. - Yulia Pichugina
This was our only stay with a C-P apartment and we were very pleased with the entire process. Will look to use them again on our next Europe trip! - Anthony Giglio
Great web site and quick response from the team a CP made the whole experience easy and hassle free. I have already recommended CP to quite of few of my airline industry colleagues and I'm sure they will make use of their excellent service. - Shane Pickles
Cross-Pollinate was extremely helpful! They found us a place to stay in our price range when many other places of business couldn't help us. - Sarah Seminutin
Cross-Pollinate was very easy to use, and it is so much better to stay in places like these than big corporate hotels; you get a much better feel for the place. - Kaspar Deane
Very straight forward. Well done. Definitely would use it again. Love these type of alternatives to hotels! - John White
Cross-Pollinate was fantastic and easy to use. We used Cross-Pollinate to book a room in Florence (the second leg of our trip), which was everything I thought it would be. We have recommended Cross-Pollinate to our friends. - Barbara Carlin
Cross-Pollinate are great - the descriptions are accurate and they are very responsive to questions. - Dominique Bayne
Cross Pollinate was just the best. I had tried a couple of places before coming upon them. As soon as I sent the first email I stopped looking for any more websites. I just wish they expanded to every city in Europe. Their knowledge, helpfulness, etc. was second to none. - Caroline Collis
Ca' Riccio
This charming little guesthouse is situated on the third floor of a typical Venetian palazzo. It's recently been restored, with great attention to detail and typical Venetian style, creating clean and comfortable rooms with glass lamps and other objects from the islands of Murano and Burano.
This is a family-run B&B but you will still be treated like -- or better than! -- you're at a three-star hotel (you'll even get little treats like a 'welcome basket' with soaps and shampoo, a map, etc).

There are 7 rooms, all with private ensuite bathrooms, and one 'Junior Suite', and a large and inviting common area with tables where guests can relax, and where breakfast is served.

The owners, Lidia and Giampaolo, live next door and are just as delightful as their staff.

Located in Cannaregio, it is a short walk to the Rialto, St. Mark's Square, and the train station, while being off the heavy trafficked streets. In the nearby Campo, guests can see local Venetians out for a stroll with the children or browse the weekend flea market in the surrounding squares.

Lisa on Jun 2018:

This was a good location, particularly as it is near a dock in a northern area of Venice and we needed to leave early for a morning flight - a short walk to Fondamete Nove. The room and bathroom was spacious, clean and comfortable.
Staff seemed to be too busy/ hurried to take time to answer questions.
Quick to respond to questions
Mary Hubacher on May 2018:

Ca Riccio was the perfect place for our Venice stay. We enjoyed the out-of-the-way location where we were able to escape the crowds. It was an easy walk to St. Mark's Square and the Rialto Bridge. We enjoyed the neighborhood restaurants which were not touristy.
A little better lighting and signage at the front door. It was hard to locate and to enter after dark.
Cross pollinate was easy to work with and responded to any of my questions quickly.
Steve on Oct 2017:

Secure building, wonderful breakfast, pleasant staff.
Breakfast is kind of late for on-the-go folks like us. Would be nice if it started earlier, maybe at 7:30.
Cross-Pollinate did a fine job as an intermediary between us and the actual inn.
rita brock on Oct 2016:
Coziness and being away from the craziness of san Mark's crowds.
Madeline on Sep 2016:

We were in room 9 (a triple room) and it had the most comfortable beds of any we slept on during our entire trip to Italy. Thank you very much for putting in firm foam mattresses! The breakfast was fantastic with a lot of choice!
There were two signs in the bathroom indicating that for environmental reasons we could leave towels that we wanted to reuse hanging on the racks. We did so but the towels were replaced anyway. It would be nice if this policy was followed.
Cross-pollinate was excellent. I got good help choosing alternative places when some of the ones I requested were already booked and the response to emails was amazingly quick and helpful.
Kate on Sep 2016:

The room was lovely and exceeded my expectations. I had a double room with an en suite, and it had a little table, chairs, a fridge and a TV. Breakfast was included and was fabulous, it was lovely sitting down having a coffee and food before starting my day. Staff were super helpful, I lost my luggage upon arrival and one of the girls called the airport for me. Very easy to locate if you use directions from the hotel from public transport from the airport. After hours check in was easy to do too! Great value for money.
Not an improvement, more a point of consideration. Ca"Riccio is up the top of the building. Just to note if you have trouble getting up stairs.
Steve has been super helpful with all of my questions and actually helped me find Ca"Riccio after sending him an email. I would definitely use Cross-Pollinate to book accomodation next time I'm in Italy/Europe.
on Sep 2016:
Breakfast was nearly empty by 9:15 with no sign of it being refilled. No dishes on the table for breakfast. The people in the room above us were loud from 4am -8am. The loud noises woke us up and kept us awake.
Penny Nash on Jun 2016:

We loved staying at Ca'Riccio. The location is wonderful - out of the touristy areas but close enough to everywhere we wanted to go. The room was comfortable and the breakfast was fresh with a variety of choices (cereal, yogurt, scrambled eggs and meat, fruit, freshly baked croissants, plus juice, coffee, tea). The price was very reasonable - hotels in Venice are exorbitant and I don't understand why people stay in them when places like Ca'Riccio are available. When we arrived, we had lost a bag on the water bus and the B&B owner promptly got on the phone to contact Alilaguna to notify them for us (our Italian is not so great), and she brought us juice while we waited. She also recommended restaurants in the neighborhood that were great. The staff was helpful, too - present if you needed them but not intrusive.
The website is easy to use, photos are current, and Steve's response was quick and helpful, with directions from the public transportation stop to the B&B as part of the confirmation email. We needed to make a change and it was super easy to just contact Steve and go from there. I will use them again.

Staff very friendly Nice room and bathroom Breakfast included Quiet location Close to catching the boat to Murano
Shower leaked water on the floor Curtains smelt like smoke (seemed like people had been smoking in the room)
Great, would recommend to friends asking about accomodation in Venice.
Maggie Monroe on Apr 2016:

The location was great for touristy spots but far away from the train station and taxi boats. We had our own bathroom which was nice. The shower was warm and the towels were nice. We didn't get to eat breakfast because we got there late and left early the next morning. The view from the room was cute. The room was spacious.
I wish I had picked a spot closer to the train station. It is a far walk with luggage. I wish they offered breakfast for our schedule instead of a set time that we could not make.
We love cross pollinate. Super easy to book and provides a lot of information.
Lisa Chambers on Apr 2016:

The room was clean and comfortable and the location was excellent and the staff very friendly and helpful. It's easy to walk everywhere but out of the chaos of the tourist zone.
There are a lot of stairs to climb, and for people with physical difficulties (as my elderly mother has) the description could be more specific in spelling that out so guests can be prepared or request to not be put on the top floor (which requires more stairs).
I love cross-pollinate. I always use it when going to a city that's in that system.
Bob Lane, Philadelphia, PA, USA on Sep 2015:

We liked everything about Ca' Riccio. It's a charming absolutely lovely establishment. Our room was small but adequate and quite clean. Minor plumbing problem was completely fixed by the time we returned from a day of sightseeing. The staff was very friendly and helpful, and the breakfasts were delicious and plentiful. We highly recommend it.
Nothing comes to mind.
Steve recommended two or three B&Bs for each city we visited, Rome, Florence and Venice. Each was different and wonderful in it's own way. Cross-Pollinate's recommendations were major factors in making our first visit to Italy so wonderful. Very reliable service.
Kerry on Aug 2015:

The location was amazing!! and breakfast was delicious.
Fantastic!
on May 2015:

Close proximity to water bus and St. Mark's square. Room was very clean.
Check in was not ideal. No one was there at our agreed arrival time. Was not able to reach staff member on cell number left by the front door. Waited more than an hour out front with our bags. Frustrating, but our overall experience was nice.
Thanks for the help tracking down someone to get us in to the B&B! Not sure what we would have done without you.
Nathalie on Mar 2015:

Great location, easy access, nice room. Friendly reception and service.
For some reasons all the guests decided to have breakfast at the same time and the staff had difficulties to cope with the surge of demands (nothing drastic). The shower rod in the room (3) needs replacing.
Seamless booking as usual. The link to the visual transfer from Vaporetto stop to the hotel was very helpful.
Cathi on Sep 2014:

Friendly staff; nice breakfast; quiet place; location far enough away from the crowds but closs enough to get to the vaparetto easily with luggage or walk to anywhere otherwise. Very clean and bright. When we had an appointment to leave before breakfast would officially be started (8:30 am) they provided a breakfast the evening before so we could leave early....and then when they actually arrived to set up breakfast earlier than scheduled on that morning, they gave us a call so we were able to get fresh coffee and extra hot breakfast before we left at 8:30. They really went out of their way to please.
The only caution is that the photos lead one to believe that the rooms are more spacious than is necessarily the case. Of the 7 rooms, at least two (6 and 7) are with the high ceilings and fairly spacious. The others, at least the one we were initially given, are much smaller. We were able to switch to #7 for the second night. The whole place, however, is beautiful in any case. It was just the expectations vs. what we were initially given that was a bit of a disappointment. I think if the description was more clear, people would understand that they might get a smaller room. Lastly, people need to understand that they are climbing to the third floor with their luggage. We didn't consider it a big problem....just a note.
Very easy. I felt that if we HAD any problems (which we didn't) reaching the owner or finding the place, that we had someone else to call. The email communications were very helpful.
Kasandra and Dewey Lybecker on Aug 2014:

Both couples in unit 2 & 8 enjoyed our stay. The biggest challenge was the stairs, especially with luggage. Installation of a lift would be great! The other improvement would be a larger shower stall especially in #8. Also, unable to plug in the towel warmer. Breakfast was a real treat especially after eating traditional "European" breakfasts. Although, the breakfast space was very charming, the tables were small and didn't have a sideboard for dirty dishes. 95% would recommend! ! Thanks
Please read above
Love Cross-pollinate, extremely helpful and certainly would use again! !!!!
Admin on 31. Aug 2014:
It's not possible to put in an elevator due to building restrictions, nor is it possible to have larger showers (although they are standard European size shower stalls). Space in general is very limited in historic cities such as Venice, so things like a sideboard in the breakfast room is simply unrealistic, I'm afraid.
Jackie on May 2014:

The place was easy to find and so charming. The beds were nice and soft and the breakfast was really awesome. Everyone told us when we arrived how lovely the b&b is and they were not wrong. The room was quiet as well and well located.
It would be nice to have information on how to get to the airport, such as which vaporato or company and where the dock is. It turns out the one the owner says to take to get to the place does have a boat to the airport.
Brirna Spiker on Apr 2014:

We had flown from the US to Rome, caught the train to Venice, took the water taxi to Ca-Riccio, and arrived on time. We were originally shown a room which was not what was listed (above is a picture of what we expected). It was not big enough for 3. The young woman immediately spoke with staff and moved us into the room shown on the web page. We had a tremendous visit. Very safe, very quiet, excellent service, and the most awesome breakfast. A lot of people stay here as evidenced by the number at breakfast. I definitely recommend Ca'Riccio.
Access to internet is not available in rooms, and we had to go to the communal area where breakfast is served to access Facebook, email, etc. We were politely asked to leave at 10:00PM. So internet access after 10:00PM is not available.
Location, location, location. I loved each of the staff members, and they speak varying levels of English...a plus. Thank you SOOO much. My deepest thanks from this mom, her daughter, and now my daughter's fiancee. The proposal was in Cinque de Terre, Italy!! Thank you Cross-Pollinate staff!!!!
Brian on Oct 2013:

Ca'Riccio was in a good location. Everything in Venice is close, but it was close to the big areas, but in a quiet location we could retreat to after a day of walking around. Room was cozy.
The breakfast was just ok, as we made our way through Italy, the other places we stayed had superior breakfasts.
I didn't feel the cost of using Cross-Pollinate gave us that better of a value in the place we stayed.
Peter Bell on Oct 2013:

Great location, great rooms, great staff, great breakfast, fantastic design.
Get the WiFi working in the rooms, as we could only access the WiFI in the common breakfast room.

David Smith on Oct 2013:

Good location. Quiet at night. Comfortable and a nice continental breakfast. Staff was very nice.
Shower in room 1 leaked all over the floor no matter how careful.

Jill Unruh-Philadelphia on Oct 2013:

Ca'Riccio is a beautiful and charming B&B that is very well located. The room was quaint with a true Venetian feel. Staff was incredibly helpful and breakfast was lovely. It was as described on the website and even better! Excellent directions are provided.

Cross-Pollinate was helpful in every way possible! Steve and his staff made our 2 weeks across Italy, Spain and France seamless. Thanks Steve & staff!
Amy on Sep 2013:

It was quiet, comfortable, easy to find (with the owners' directions!), and provided a delicious breakfast.
Cross-Pollinate helped me find a great location even with not much time to spare before our trip. I've already recommended it to others!
Patrick on Oct 2013:

Place is clean, beautiful and breakfast is a complete egg and toast type of breakfast. Staff is accommodating to your needs (we had to check out before breakfast time and they left us some food the night before for us to wake up to) directions to the place is clear and concise
great experience!
Ellena Scarabello on Sep 2013:

it was lovely. It was perfect for the last night. We would not have been able to stay there for the entire time because it was quite small and it was sister and I. We stayed on our way out of Italy, after we stayed in Florence and Venice the 2 weeks prior.
Shower door was troublesome. Just get a shower curtain. The door was a folding thing that just let the water flow to the floor.
I really love this website.
Jeff Page on Oct 2013:

Location, Breakfast,staff,beds
We got several insect bites/spider bites that were particularly nasty and lasted several days.
Easy to use.
Admin on 11. Oct 2013:
Venice definitely has a mosquito problem. Need to keep windows closed!
Lucia Rebholz on Sep 2013:

We were very pleased with our stay. Very comfortable and charming in a quiet area. Friendly, helpful staff. The breakfast provided was more substantial than expected , in a delightful room, a good start to the day. The location was convenient, an easy walk to Piazza San Marco , Ponte Realto and pretty much everywhere. The fact thst we got lost several times in Venice was no fault of Ca'Riccio!
Nothing really - exceeded our expectations.
Very easy to use and will definitely use in the future.
Clifford Curtis on Sep 2013:

Good breakfast. Scrambled eggs, bacon, sausage, cereal, fruit, juice, yogurt, coffee, tea. Helpfulness of staff. The receptionist (Serena) walked my wife to a hairdresser and walked my friend to a pharmacy. All staff speak English well. Excellent directions for getting from the parking garage (Garage San Marco) to the nearest vaporetto stop and pictures showing how to get from the vaporetto stop to the B&B. All rooms ensuite.
Fix the shower in room 5. The upright tube that holds the hand-held shower came loose during the shower. Provide a larger shelf for toiletries (e.g., toothpaste, make-up, deodorant), a small shelf in shower to hold soap and shampoo, and towel hooks near the shower. Provide better lighting in bathroom. Provide clearer instructions for operating the AC.
Kat on Aug 2013:

Quiet, clean, pretty, and nice price.
Very good and clear.
Sarah on May 2013:

Location was excellent and everyone was so nice! They went above and beyond to be nice and helpful. Would definitely stay there again without question. Room was small but very clean and comfortable.
Might need a sign outside for those who get lost easy to know where it is. Easy to walk right past.
Marlo Bain on Jun 2013:
I liked that Ca'Riccio was so close to everything in Venice. It was easy to get anywhere. We also thought Serena was a wonderful person she helped us out with a couple of situations (places to eat and a water taxi early in the am). Our stay was very pleasent.
Todd Arbogast on Jun 2013:

The staff was friendly. The location was excellent. The room was cozy. Mattress for the queen bed was very comfortable.
For the 3 nights we were there we never had hot water because something was broken. They should have told us about this when we first checked in (we spent a lot of time thinking we didn't know how to turn on the hot water), and although they were working hard to get the water heater repaired, they should have offered us a discount (they didn't charge us the city tax) since we had icy showers for all three days . Also, mattresses on twin beds need to be replaced.
Admin on 05. Jul 2013:
From what was reported to us, they had a problem with a brand new water heater and gave the guests access to a shower in another room. They were given a discount (as they paid the tax themselves instead of charging the guests) and they were given a bottle of Venetian Champagne to show their apologies.
Eve Boye on Jun 2013:

Loved that it was actually in Venice. Located walking distance to all the main sights. Very clean and comfortable with a better than average breakfast. The entire staff were very friendly and helpful.
Note that the B&B is located 4 flights of stairs up with no elevator.
Love Cross-Pollinate.
Carole on Jun 2013:

Good location. 15 walk to major sights and 5 minutes from a good vaporetto stop for airport transport. Nice room and bathroom size. The fridge was stocked with reasonably priced beverages, which was nice for when we didn't feel like venturing out.
The thermostat didn't really seem to work very well. In order to cool down the room, we had to manually override the AC using "test" mode so that it would say on. Then we would have to remember to turn it off.
Great experience overall!
Donald on May 2013:

Great location. 10 minute walk to Rialto Bridge. 5 minute walk to boat shuttles to airport. Quiet at night. Friendly staff.
Shower door in our room a little hard to get used to but not a bid deal.
Cross Pollinate staff very helpful and answered all my e-mails very promptly.
Jennifer on May 2013:

Room was bright, clean, airy, and comfortable. Breakfast was good. Location was convenient and easy to find from vaporetto stop and to get to Rialto Bridge.
Only issue was with checkout. When we tried to check out after breakfast to head to the train station (a normal time for checking out of a hotel on your last day), we were told that check out was not until 11 am (or that we should have checked OUT the night before our departure). This seemed very odd and came as a complete surprise. It ultimately turned out that we only had to wait another 30 or so minutes because you were able to check us out "early." This policy took others by surprise as well. Because this procedure is so unusual, it needs to be clearly communicated and a reminder given the night before scheduled check out.
Will use again if the occasion arises.
Admin on 03. Jun 2013:
Check out is anytime up to 11am, but on this particular day, which was a holiday, they were short staffed and had everyone at breakfast all at once and the girls working didn't speak very good English so there was some confusion. But it is not necessary to check out at 11 am.
Charles on May 2013:

Experiencing staying in an older place that was quaint with a good breakfast. Good direction from boat bus stop.
Checking out process when leaving early in the morning.
It was easy and good experience.
Febe on Apr 2013:

The room was nice and clean and the staff very friendly. We were in a great location, not in the middle of all the tourist but still close to everything. We enjoyed our stay. Breakfast was great, lots of options and very filling.
The blowdryer was very weak, so it took forever to use. Also, there wasn't an iron in the room, PLEASE provide an iron for your guests.
Cross-Pollinate is super easy to use and very helpful, especially since some of the hotels we wanted to stay at did not have a website in English. The reviews are all great!
Diederik on Apr 2013:

Very neat and comfortable. Good breakfast and friendly staff. Well equipped and centrally situated within easy reach to tourist attractions.
Nothing.
Great and will recommend to our friends and will also make use in future. Very good communication. Thanks a lot.

Excellent location and Staff were very helpful when my travel arrangements caused me to be delayed in arriving. Room was really pretty :) Would stay here again.
Everything was simple and easy and directions provided were detailed.
Eleanor on May 2011:

The room was gorgeous and spacious and the hotel near to everthing. The breakfast room was charming and the food delicious. I only wished I had stayed longer. Next time I will!
It was a bit difficult to find. Maybe the directions could be a bit more detailed.
Aboslutely first rate. Thanks.
