Cross-Pollinate are great - the descriptions are accurate and they are very responsive to questions. - Dominique Bayne
Cross Pollinate was just the best. I had tried a couple of places before coming upon them. As soon as I sent the first email I stopped looking for any more websites. I just wish they expanded to every city in Europe. Their knowledge, helpfulness, etc. was second to none. - Caroline Collis
Ca' Francesco - 1 bedroom
Ca' Francesco - 1-bedroom is situated right in the heart of the Jewish Ghetto of Venice. (and thus also close to the train station), overlooking the square Campo Gheto Vecio. (There are three squares or 'campi' in the ghetto: the old square, the new square, and the very new -- or 'nuovissimo' -- square... and nobody really knows which one's which, but don't worry, one is next to the other!)

It's one of those typical apartments with exposed wood-beam ceiling, thick walls and history woven into it all. About 55 square meters and recently restored, it's ideal for families or small groups (up to 4 people): composed of a good-sized entrance/living room area with kitchenette and sofabed and a double bedroom plus a bathroom (with shower stall).

The area surrounding the apartment, Sestiere Cannaregio, is one of the most popular and typically characteristic areas of Venice. Two minutes to the closest boat stop allows easy connections to the northern islands -- Murano, Burano and Torcello. The Grand Canal is only 200 meters from the apartment and both the Rialto and Saint Mark's Square are within easy walking distance.

The owners are very accommodating and warm people with a great sense of humor, they'll make you laugh when explaining the apartment to you!

Please note: Ca' Francesco does not accept arrivals before 14:00 and it is not possible to arrive earlier in the day to store luggage.
Located in the same building as Ca' Francesco - 2 bedroom (also on our website). The two apartments together can host up to 9 people (plus 2 cribs for babies upon request), availability permitting.

Cannot beat the location - Location is great and easy walking distance to train station and many places to eat whilst not being right in the hustle and bustle of the really touristy area. Alessandra the apartment owner was very friendly and most helpful answering our many questions. Apartment is conveniently located, spotlessly clean with high quality linens, extremely well equipped kitchen, modern renovations, spacious, secure, homely and comfortable. Just a note - the ceiling is low may be a bit low for those over six feet high – just remember to watch your head!
Nothing - great apartment that really felt like home.
Great service and much help and advice from Steve prior to booking. Keep up the great work!
David Ward on Jun 2016:

Perfect location away from the tourist crowds but still only 5 minutes walk to the Grand Canal. Spacious apartment in quiet area of the Jewish quarter, modern amenities and a sofa bed in the lounge room if required. Would not hesitate to stay here agan.

Easy to use site, a very smooth experience from start to end
Michael Banks on May 2016:

Location was perfect.
Ceiling height was hard to deal with for a person over 180 cm tall.
Very satisfied.
Genevieve Ellerbee on Oct 2015:

Great location - managed to be off the main path enough to be quieter in the evenings, but not too far that navigating was a problem. Also, the apartment was clean and well-stocked, and Alessandra was very welcoming when she met me and gave me the orientation to the apartment.
Not possible to improve this, but very tall visitors be warned: the ceilings are very low and the tallest member of the party managed to bonk his head a couple of times.
This was our first time using Cross-Pollinate and it worked very well. I'll definitely look in again on my next trip.
Ming Cheng on Oct 2015:

Raja Philip on Jun 2015:

The hosts (Alessandra and Lupe) are wonderful and friendly. The apartment that we used was clean and conveniently located (10 minutes walk from Venice Santa Lucia train station) and had all the facilities/equipment.
At this point I cannot think of anything that could be improved.
My experience with Cross-Pollinate (starting from finding good locations to stay and booking on line to actually staying at the place) was excellent. I highly recommend Cross Pollinate to anyone looking to book places to stay in Venice (they also have locations in many places in Europe)
B Dermer on May 2015:

Excellent location. Very roomy and clean. The owner was communicative and helpful (and patient with our late arrival.) This a quiet part of Venice with low tourist impact. It is close to a vaporetto stop and within walking distance of the Piazzale Roma / car park / buses / trains.
Nothing really. This was hands down the best place we've stayed in Venice.
No negative issues whatsoever. Their email communications clearly define how payments will be made, directions to the apartments, owner information/contact details.
Kerry on May 2015:

Location and price. Apartment had everything we needed.
A little noisy for sleeping
Would definitely use again!
Moreau Camille on Apr 2015:

Very quiet and nice area , with " the real people" living there , with 2 nices bakery in the street apt, and market close by . Alessandra was nice .
A toaster could be nice for toasts at breakfast . When you don't have a GPS , you have to know that the numbers in the street go by " seistere "= bloc. It can be helpful to know that you have to TURN at the farmacia , et say "this is an old one , not working anymore " !.... And even say : just before the bridge before campo nuevo .
Very well.
Peter on Mar 2015:

Great location. It was good be among real people living their normal lives instead of being in a touristy area. Great local flavour.
The kitchen needed a chopping board and it would have been nice to have a shovel and brush to sweep up crumbs.
Helpful and efficent
LOIS ROBEY on Sep 2014:

Everything was perfect for us. Location was amazing, quiet area but at the same time close to everything one could need. Owners on site to book us in at time arranged and gave us all the information we needed for a perfect stay. Washing machine much appreciated.
The lack of good lighting, while in character I am sure, made it hard to read unless sitting in the kitchen. The wifi connection was rather tenuous unless using it in the bedroom. These were only minor issues and I would have no hesitation returning to Ca'Francesco.
All good. Would be very happy to use again if available.
Alex on Jul 2014:

Luca and Alessandra were great. They gave us lots of good advice as well as a discount to there excellent restaurant. The apartment was clean, comfortable and had everything we needed. It's close to the train station and vaporetto. Really enjoyed staying here and would absolutely stay again next time we're in Venice.
Wi-fi doesn't work very well in the family room, kitchen and bathroom.
Ellen on Jul 2014:

Everything was perfect. Spacious flat in quiet neighborhood; very close to train station. Everything was explained to us, and the owner helped us feel at home. We appreciated the written directions for everything, especially the washing machine.
Nothing, everything was great.
Great site, will definitely use again.
Katrina Paton on Jun 2014:

Neat little apartment that was clean and central-only afew minutes walk to the train station, and not too far to the main canal. Had everything we needed and a great bakery next door, and a supermarket a few minutes away too. Kitchen was well equipped and we ate in a few times.
Only thing here is the cieling is very low-my husband had to duck all the time so he didnt hit his head-but this can't be changed!
No problems whatsoever.
M Potter on Jun 2014:

Owner was on time, the apartment was good sized and pretty well equipped. Being close to the train station was a plus, and there were plenty of little shops and restaurants nearby. There was also a large outdoor market to the right after crossing the Ponte delle Guglie bridge coming from the train station.
It would have helped to know after exiting the station to the left the street you want is Lista di Spagna. The apartment was surfaced cleaned, but could have used a deep cleaning. And the name outside the door to the apartment is incorrect. Something that starts with a "Z" so we got confused the first time we came back to the apartment.
Love it! Hope to use you many more times.
Denise D\'Agostino Brubaker on May 2014:

Ideal place for our stay in Venice! Spacious, comfortably furnished, well equipped, and in a lovely, quiet residential location (much better than staying in a noisy, crowded tourist area!). The neighborhood is charming; an easy walk from the train station, close to the vaporetto stops, with several good bakeries and restaurants a few doors down, and grocery store options nearby. Alessandra, the owner, was most helpful in getting us situated; she gave us a thorough tour of the apartment, making sure to show us where everything was located and how everything worked, then took additional time to go over the map with us, giving pointers on areas of interest and the best way to get from place to place. The sites were undeniably fabulous, but the most memorable part of our stay was time spent exploring our Cannaregio neighborhood!
An A/C unit in the bedroom would be good. The unit in the main room did a good job of cooling the living room and kitchen (we didn't need it very much in any case as we visited in May), but I imagine that the bedroom might get a bit warm in July and August. There is, however, also a table fan available to help with circulation.
We’ve used Cross-Pollinate in planning trips to Italy in 2004, 2007, 2010, and 2014. In 2004 a family emergency made it necessary to cancel the entire trip. Thankfully, Cross-Pollinate’s cancellation policy made the process very simple. I find the website to be very easy to navigate and the am confident that I can trust the details and descriptions to be complete and accurate. I especially like the personal touch when corresponding – thank you, Amy and Steve!
Stephanie on Jun 2014:

Great location. Independence. Wifi. Easy walk from station but tucked away in Jewish ghetto & a good local feel not so many tourists as some more well known areas. Comfortable as long as you are no taller than 5ft 9" - low ceilings. Comfortable double bed. Everything you need in kitchen etc
Sofa bed not too comfortable if you need to use. Fine as a couch but just ok as a bed.
Great. Appreciate prompts to contact owner prior to arrival.
Karen on May 2014:

Alessandra was there to greet us and orient us even though we arrived about 45 minutes earlier than expected. Directions were excellent and we had an easy walk from the bus station. We loved being able to shop at the local produce stalls and to eat at restaurants in "our" neighborhood.
Washing machine did not work properly- failed to spin dry, so we had to hand wring and wait two days for our load of laundry to dry. Set up ironing board and discovered there was no iron. Kitchen is adequate but awkward to work in.
Easy and efficient.
Admin on 17. May 2014:
We've confirmed with the owner that there is an iron but that the guests weren't able to find it. Also, since this review, the washing machine has been replaced.
David on Apr 2014:

Very quaint apartment, with all necessary amenities. Alexandra (owner) graciously met us and explained the building and Unit. She also provided some great insights about the "rush hour" in the morning and afternoon times as the boats are busier, Great location outside of the heart of the tourist areas but still close enough to walk to all. Really enjoyed being able to shop the street markets for fresh fruit and other items for a meal prepared in the Units kitchen.
Easy to use
David Imnpastato on Aug 2013:

Three of us stayed at Ca\\\'Francesca in August. We can only say positive things about it. Location perfect, close to train station and vaparetto, local neighborhood having its own unique charms. The apartment was provided with world-class kitchen, full table-settings, attractive furnishings. A-C worked well, though we were there on cold days (!), a needed relief from an otherwise hot august. This is a sunny, happy place, just be careful of the beams overhead, charming if sometimes lower than we\\\'re used to in the states. Stay here, you\\\'ll love it.
Thanks to cross-pollinate for their help throughout.
Mary Ann Azer on Sep 2013:

The owner was extremely helpful and met us at the apartment on time. The location was also quite close to the train station and the airport.
Very easy and convenient to use.
david robin eadie on Sep 2013:

Spaciousness of apt. Situation excellent. Owner very helpful. Kitchen very well equipped. Excellent fridge freezer. Second time we have used this apt - would use again.
Cooker didn't work although the hob did. This was a disappointment as we had planned to use the cooker, thus rating marked down.
Have used several times in the past, very slick, no complaints. Previously there was a problem with owners not keeping availability up to date so that an apt would be shown as available when it had been booked, but website not updated.
Abigail on Sep 2013:

The location is really lovely, the Jewish Ghetto is a really interesting and different part of Venice that you wouldn't see ordinarily on the normal tourist trail. As we were interrailing, it was also really conveniently located to the train station, and we had amazing nights sleep, it's so quiet at night time! The owners are lovely as well and explain where are the best places to visit, and the apartment is spotless.
Nothing!
So easy I was convinced I'd overlooked something prior to my arrival, but the whole holiday went smoothly!
Susan Morgan on Sep 2013:

The property was clean and fully equipped for an extended stay with a full laundry and kitchen that allowed for for home dining and was only one floor up from ground level. We were slightly late but the owner waited for us after we had contacted her
Very efficient, we are a first time user and we will use again.
Helen Keane on Aug 2013:

Helpfulness of the owner, an apartment made with love which made us feel very at home. Loved the location. The only issue was the low ceilings for my tall partner! They are part of the character of the apartment and helped make it memorable.
All good....easy to work with.
Anne Pierce on Aug 2013:

Very clean, great location - close to train station but in a quiet area. The unit has air conditioning and two fans, which are a help in hot weather.
Directions could say specifically to turn into the Ghetto adjacent to the pharmacy. The building numbers are a little hard to follow, which is typical for Venice. Can't do anything about the doorways, which are quite low - anyone over 5 feet 8 inches needs to remember to duck.
We were late to check in because of our airline, and having trouble getting through to the Owner. Fortunately someone was at Cross-Pollinate and was able to reach the Owner for us.
Tami Echemann on Jul 2013:

It was very nice and clean. We loved getting off the busy touristy area and coming to our peaceful apartment.
Wifi did not work well
Cross-Pollinate was very helpful when my first choice was not available and the when I asked to stay an extra day they made it happen! Thank you.
N. Oneill on Jul 2013:

Great location, quiet, easy to find, clean, and the owners are incredibly kind. Air conditioning worked fantastic, bed was comfortable, what more can you ask for?!
Not a thing....we loved it!
This is the second cross-pollinate booking for us and have been thrilled with both. The listings and photos are very accurate, and the owners have all been great.

Space within apartment, neat, clean, well lit with natural light. Good furniture.
All reasonably good.
Great.
anonymous on May 2011:

Affordable, clean, accommodating. Close to the train station. Approximately 15 min walk with suitcases. Safe area, great pizza and food close by at Al Faro.
We went to the restaurant owned by the couple that rents out this apartment in San Marco. The food was expensive and touristy.
Cross Pollinate is very reliable. we wanted to arrive a day early. We contacted Cross Pollinate and they helped us get in touch with the owners. Very helpful.
anonymous on May 2011:

Very clean. A whole apartment to ourselves! Home away from home. The owner was amazing and very helpful!
Nothing.
Easy. Everything was setup without any problems

Very cosy flat, in the cetre of the jewish neighbouhood.Very nice locations with good restaurants and very close to vaporetto stop. You can go to almost anywhere walking.
I lovel Crosspollinate and every time that we go to a new city I just look whether they have some accommodation over there.
anonymous on Jul 2011:

We enjoyed being in a neighborhood rather than in a heavily pedestrian traffic area. It was quiet at night and close enough to one of the open air markets that gathering fresh fruit and pastries for breakfast was fun and fast. I enjoyed seeing Venice from a local point of view and wandering the back passageways and yet all the iconic parts of Venice were just a turn away. I would recommend to anyone who wants to get off the beaten path and see a different side of Venice.
Very accommodating staff and no complaints whatsoever.
Cross-Pollinate has been a great resource for us in our travels!. We found places that we have gone back to several times and the staff has been great. When our daughter met us in Rome after completing a year of study abroad she had two large packs. Yikes! We were scheduled to travel for a week outside of Rome and the owner allowed her to store her extra bag at the Beehive while we were gone at no charge. Now that is service that we won't forget!
