Cross Pollinate was just the best. I had tried a couple of places before coming upon them. As soon as I sent the first email I stopped looking for any more websites. I just wish they expanded to every city in Europe. Their knowledge, helpfulness, etc. was second to none. - Caroline Collis
L'Altra Luna B & B
L'Altra Luna B&B is a 1-room Bed & Breakfast located about a 10 minute walk from Termini station. The room faces the inner courtyard of the apartment building rather than the street, which on the positive side means that it's very quiet, but on the negative side means it's not particularly sunny. However, the room is still very pleasant and homey as it's been recently refurbished by the owner, Assunta. She's maintained its original tile flooring, while redoing everything else, so the place is freshly painted and has all new furniture and fixtures. The room, which is simple but comfortable, has a queen bed that can be separated if necessary and made up into 2 single beds, plus a fold-out sofabed in the corner in case of a third person. The bathroom is private and ensuite (with shower, no tub), and has been completely renovated as well. Just outside the room is the entranceway to the apartment, which also has a kitchenette and a kitchen table. Guests are welcome to use the kitchenette for any light cooking they wish (there is a stove but no oven, mini-fridge, coffee-makers, and some cooking and eating utensils). The owner has a room in the B&B as well where she sleeps, but she also lives with her family just 2 blocks away from the B&B, so either way she's almost always in the neighborhood in case of any problems. Since she spends more time at her home with her family, and there is only 1 guestroom, that means guests have a good deal of privacy and liberty and have the kitchen area to themselves. The neighborhood, called Piazza Vittorio, is a lively immigrant area, with lots of ethnic food shops, the biggest covered food market in Rome just a block away, and a great Indian restaurant, called Himalaya's Kashmir, a few doors away. The location is very convenient, being just a 5-minute walk from Termini station, where you'll find the metro stops for both lines, bus stops that will take you all around the city, and the trains, including the airport train.

Great stay with a truly wonderful host. Would stay again when in rome
Robert Cain on May 2018:

This is the third time we have stayed at L'Altra Luna. Assunta speaks excellent English and is so friendly and helpful. She arranged for a shared taxi to pick us up at the airport. We love the location. It's an easy walk to the Coliseum area. Trams and the metro are just around the corner, and they can take you in a short hop to Termini, where you find city buses to almost anywhere in Rome. Moreover, the oldest and best gelateria in Rome is only two blocks away--the Palazzo del Freddo of Giovanni Fassi. Also a very good Italian restaurant and a good Indian restaurant nearby. The building is a very typical older Roman apartment building, with a small elevator. The flat has effective air conditioning, wi-fi, and a small kitchenette. It's in a safe, multicultural neighborhood. We don't hesitate to recommend it.
We like Cross-Pollinate very much. Great idea, works very well.

Assunta was very nice and helpful.
I believe this place was advertised as two blocks from the train station (if I am incorrect please correct) but it was actually about 6-8 blocks. With suitcases, etc, that is quite a long walk.
Easy

I'm sorry you felt our description was misleading. At the time of writing it, the airport train came in a section of the station that has its own entrance/exit that's two blocks away. If you're coming from the main gallery, it's indeed farther.
Susanane Felman on Sep 2016:

The owner was extremely nice. She even made a phone call for us to reserve the visit to Villa Borghese. She gave hints for places to eat out. She even gave us a proper (german) blanket for the bed. Breakfast (continental)was fine and sufficient.
Everything worked fine. The information was correct. Since there were no problems, I didn"t need help
Carol Sanford on May 2016:

The room was spacious and comfortable, and was made up as a double bed for us. Our host was very thoughtful and considerate, and gave us a chocolate bar because she was unable to fix a minor problem with the curtain rod while we were there two nights. Very convenient having access to a small kitchen with electric kettle and a refrigerator.
Nothing.
Cross-Pollinate provides excellent service and sends a reminder email just before you are due to arrive at a listing.
Veronica on Oct 2015:

Owner is very friendly and helpful, room is nice and the location is within walking distance to many things.
Cross pollinate told the owner a different time than what they confirmed with me via email, which resulting in inconvenience for me (we took an expensive cab instead a bus because the time they confirmed was earlier [14:00]) and for the proprietor (she wasn't onsite and didn't have the room ready because cross-pollinate had told her a different time [16:00]).
Admin on 14. Oct 2015:
I don't know what was told to the guests on arrival but all we do is pass the information that the guests provide in their reservation on to the owner. We then send a reminder a few days before arrival, that automatically displays the arrival time again that the guest chose. So there might have been a misunderstanding, but I don't believe we were to blame.

Cristina Magro on Sep 2014:

The amazingly helpful and nice Assunta, the owner.
The price is a bit high considering the location. I did not feel comfortable enough to walk around after hours.
Jannon on Aug 2014:

We had a great stay at L'Altra Luna B&B. Assunta's husband was more than helpful getting us settled in. The room, a short walk from Termini station and an even shorter one to a metro station, had everything we needed. WiFi worked great. Tasty Indian restaurant right downstairs. Would definitely stay here again.
Very helpful with locating accommodations. Friendly and responsive. Glad I found Cross-Pollinate
Dave Palmer on Jun 2014:

Good location (relative to Termini and Rome's sights), comfortable apartment. Owner met us as scheduled and provided helpful orientation. All things considered, very good value.
As previous commenters noted, it's in an ethnic neighborhood that was on the seedy side. And, although there was no street noise, there was plenty of noise from neighbors on the inner courtyard - we needed the hum of an electric fan to block that out so that we could sleep.
Very helpful - a great resource that I will look for on future trips to Rome.
carol and charlie park on May 2014:

the hostess was so helpful, esp on ordering a shared van to take us to the airport. it was a very long walk with luggage to got from the train station (esp after a 9 hr train ride from sicily) her breakfasts were great. I had trouble with our email but we got to the bee hive and they gave us a map to altra luna. our hostess is the only one in our 25 day Italian trip that I intend to write a special thank you.
thanks for finding us a place. I only with it had been closer to the train station. we had been to rome before and only stayed here this time in order to fly back to the USA.
Becky Evans on Apr 2014:

Assunta is a very pleasant host. Room was large and comfortable. Kitchen was adequate for all needs. Location convenient. Good value.

Owner was very friendly and helpful
Carol on Feb 2013:

The value for the price, it can't be beat. The kitchen was well stocked, the renovated apartment had a lovely new bathroom with plenty of hot water. The renovation left the original stone floors in the bedroom giving the unit a delightful character. The best thing was the owner, Assunta Flora was a great hostess, looking after us was her priority.
The kitchen utensils and china could be updated but that is all.
Very glad you have this service, it worked wonderfully.
Norma on Jun 2012:

The close proximity to Termini Station. Ease of getting around Rome and the fresh food market across the road. The diversity of nationalities and shops, restaurants and bars within the area. Thank you for this opportunity to respond - it brings back memories of a wonderful stay in Rome with my daughter.
The drain in the shower was quite slow to clear and the shower curtain was quite smelly from sitting in the slow-draining dirty water. Perhaps it needs a daily soak in a bucket of bleach.
Easy to use with quick responses. I would use the service again and would recommend to others.
HUTEN on Nov 2012:

Kindness of the reception. Very professional. She speaks several languages. Accessibility. Multicultural district, very near to the station of Termini. Ideal to visit Rome.
The noise (but we are in the city). The smell of sewers (undoubtedly caused by the violent rains of the season).
Toni on Apr 2012:

The owner was very friendly and was helpful when we got a bit lost. She greeting us warmly and quickly took care of the paperwork. She even offered to call us a cab to the airport the next morning.
The website said it was two blocks from Termini Station, however that was a technicality. I came with my 82 year old mother and 2 suitcases and it was very warm out. We had a very difficult and long walk from where you exit the station to the B&B. I think the website should indicate how many meters (or how long a walk by foot it is) in real-time. We would have taken a cab had we realized. The room was clean but a bit run down and the courtyard outside the window was a bit noisy. Something that you'd expect in a city Palazzo.
I love Cross-Pollinate. I go to the site whenever I need to book a room in Rome, Italy or the rest of Europe! Great service....with an :).
