B & B Tata
This B&B is in a very calm, residential area just next to the Aurelian wall that surrounds the center of Rome, about a 10 minute walk to San Giovanni - Rome's official Basilica (because St. Peter's is in the Vatican City and not part of Rome!); and 20 minute walk to either Termini or the Colosseum.

At San Giovanni you have the red line metro, and just under the B&B there's a few buses that go into the center or to Termini. It's well connected and for those brave enough to drive into Rome, it's one of the few places that actually has some free street parking (though crowded) and the owners have a deal with a nearby garage for 15 euro a day. The new metro line C is also just downstairs, as well as a shuttle bus that runs to the Colosseum, Roman Forum and the historic center.

This place is ideal for when you want something really nice but are still on a budget and are willing to use public transport. You'll also be saving enough money to allow for a cab ride here and there in case you don't feel like walking or using the bus/metro. In the area though you'll certainly find cafes and shops and good food - probably better than in the center.

The B&B itself has four rooms, all with their own bathroom. One room has the bathroom right across the hall - but to compensate, it's very large and very nice (with a bathtub and a shower). The other rooms have the bathroom ensuite. There's a little breakfast/common area that has a microwave, fridge, and toaster. It's not possible to cook, but guests can use the common area to make themselves a coffee or tea and read or use Wifi. The rooms all face the inside of the building so it's very quiet. Lots of light - nice hard wood floors. Well decorated and run by a very nice couple, Carolina and Giacomo.

Judy Callens on Nov 2018:

B&B Tata was the best place by far that I have ever stayed in Rome. Rooms spacious enough to practice yoga when my legs needed it from walking all day! The host was so helpful and could not be nicer! This clean and comfortable place is my new favorite international spot! Grazie!!
It is so dark when you come in at night, and the automatic light does not get triggered until you make it down the hall through that first "doorway" in the middle of the hall. So maybe even just a small night light by the front door would be nice.
Great quick response. Communication was super. Made me confident of my reservation. Love this alternative to hotels.
Nikki Priestnall on Jun 2018:

Very good sized room, clean. Owner was away but had informed us and her neighbour welcomed us, he was extremely helpful about buses and the metro. Great Pizza place across the street. Decided as it was our first time to Rome to stay off the beaten track. Visited the Protestant Cemetery which was very quiet, tranquil and beautifully looked after and roamed the Monti area.
Very easy to book and prompt reply.
Robert Brooks on Oct 2017:
comfort, value for money, great location not in tourist area but close to city
Valeria S on Sep 2017:

The room was decorated beautifully. Well-sized but, most importantly, spotlessly clean and functional (small table, TV, safe, etc.). Comes with en-suite bathroom. I loved the breakfast room too. There were always fresh pastries, juice, etc. available for guests. Great location too. It’s only a 10 euro taxi ride from Termini to the bnb. Pretty easy to walk over to the metro station plus a bus stops right next to the bnb too. Giacomo was extremely friendly and welcoming. He kindly waited for me outside check-in hours when my flight was delayed.
Nothing. I had a really pleasant stay!
Pretty straightforward to use which means easy bookings. This was my first time using the service, I’ll use it again soon. Description of the room and amenities of the bnb on the website was accurate.

We've stayed here before and we love the location and the owners are great. The rooms have been updated and are very nicely appointed. We would recommend this to anyone looking for a place in Rome!

This was my second time staying at B&B Tata. It continues to exceed my expectations. Giacomo & Carolina are the best! Love the renovations!!! Great location, clean, secure and comfortable!!!! I'll be back!
A soaking tub in my bathroom.....
I have used Cross-Pollinate many times and have always had a great experience in both Rome and Florence accommodations.
Laurie Wardrope on Oct 2016:

Giacomo went above and beyond a B&B host. He oriented us to the transportation available, he arranged taxis for us, he helped us buy our tickets in the metro station,. He even took us to the local lunch spot to help us order sandwiches! Our rooms were lovely, and if we wanted to walk the Colloseum was 30 minutes away.
They are hampered by a regulation that does not allow them to serve fresh croissants so bakery products are plastic wrapped. There was always something fresh however available on the sideboard toast you could make and juice.
Very positive. Very good at communicating.
Cheri on Jun 2016:

Very nice, comfy, clean room in beautiful old building: looks exactly as you see in the pictures. We were right next to the bus stop & metro, which made it very convenient to get around Rome. B&B Tata has all the conveniences of home for a very reasonable price. We were traveling around Italy and had some difficulty with emails before arriving in Rome, then the bus from train station to B&B Tata broke down, making our arrival time 1-2 hrs later than expected. The owners had communicated all the info to us before hand & gave us another contact in the building to help us check in & to answer questions. He was very responsive & understanding of our situation. The owner's mother actually got us settled in. We don't speak Italian (and she doesn't speak English), but the owners had already given us all the pertinent info, so once she gave us the keys & showed us how to lock/unlock the doors, we were all set! We were only in Rome for 2-days, but our ability to use public transportation enabled us to see most of our must-see sites. Also, we found a great cafeteria style restaurant a couple blocks away that we highly recommend: Rosticceria Papero Giallo on Via Taranto. Good, home-cooked style food where 2-people can eat for less than 20 euros. We liked it so much we ate there 2-nights in a row.
Nothing - we would come back again!
Very positive experience. Although we never met the owners personally, everything was handled promptly via email and they made sure we had contact phone numbers in case of emergencies. We were very pleased at how smoothly it went & will definitely recommend Cross-Pollinate to our friends.
Julie on Oct 2015:

Giacomo and Carolina were the warmest, most easily accessible, and welcoming hosts. I really felt welcomed there and they were ready to do anything possible to make the stay the best it could be. It is easy to reach the heart of Rome and the neighborhood feels safe. One of the best pizza restaurants in Rome is around the corner. The B&B was kept neat and clean.
Super. Prompt (helped arrange taxi service from the airport). Made sure closer to my stay that I reached out directly to B&B owners to confirm arrival time information, etc... as much of previous contact was through Cross-Pollinate.
Andrew on Oct 2015:

The easy access to the buses from near the front of the accommodation. Very useful kitchen with everything provided that we could need. High speed internet and a lovely separate bathroom (at least, for our room)
Door handle on bathroom kept falling off, but this was a minor issue that I anticipate was fixed shortly after our arrival.
Excellent t and easy to use.
Tom & Ginny Carlson on May 2015:

B&B Tata was in a great location with easy access to Metro. Giacomo and Carolina were so nice and had good suggestions about Rome. The room was so spacious and had the most comfortable bed and private bath we encountered on our trip.
Cross-Pollinate was very easy to deal with and always responsive to our every inquiry. They were recommended by many who blogged on Rick Steve's site. I would definitely recommend them to anyone traveling in the cities they serve. It was a wonderful experience all around.
Angelique Notermans on May 2015:

The room was nice and clean; Giacomo and Carolina were friendly and helpfull and had thought about everything. Breakfast was included (in the B&B or in bar nearby) and the kitchen was well equipped.
Nothing. It was perfect! Next time we're in Rome, we'll choose Tata again.
It was the first time we used Cross-Pollinate, but we liked the service (we received several e-mails with information and indications on how to contact our B&B. We intend to find out If all their B&B's are comparable to Tata.
Dipti on May 2015:

The apartment was airy, had plenty of light and the owner was extremely warm and helpful.
It's a little confusing getting in touch with both the owner and cross-pollinate to confirm the booking. Also, the place is not too easy to find when going about looking for the numbers of the properties. Maybe have a sign of the B&B outside the building?
I would highly recommend Cross-pollinate to anybody who would want to book a b&b in Rome. Cheers!

room very comfortable, we felt like "being at home". Carolina and Giacomo are very helpful, welcoming. The location is very convenient : near to the market, 10 minutes from the metro station.
easy to use. no bad surprise.

I liked the general cleanliness and comfort that I had at B&B Tata. The hosts were friendly and gave me useful information on Rome. Location is in a quiet area, near San Giovanni station and it is not far from the center at all.
Cross-Pollinate was kind and helped with neccessary steps to book and gave information I need before traveling.
Katherine on Oct 2014:

Beautifully decorated. Comfy rooms. Shared kitchen/diner space so we could spend time with friends or meet other residents.
Communication with owners who do to live on site, although they did email us during the stay to check all was well.
Good.
Junus on Sep 2014:

We had a comfortable and relaxing time there. Giacomo and Carolina are so nice. They prepared everything in the kitchen everyday. We tried their recommended restaurants and that was so great. Highly recommend for B&B Tata^^
Not at all
Staffs were so helpful and efficiency. They provided recommendations and took immediate action for my enquiry.
Michele & Leslie Ebanks on Sep 2014:

The B&B met our expectations. The staff were very attentive. The accommodations were clean and comfortable and it was in a convenient location with a bus stop right outside the front door. There was a great restaurant a short distance from the B&B. It was called Creme Caramel. We ate there twice because it was so good.
The building was under renovations, so there was noise early in the morning. This was not communicated to us prior to our arrival. This was unpleasant when trying to recover from a time zone change and jet lag.
With the exception of no communication regarding the ongoing construction, our other dealings with Cross-Pollinate were good.
Admin on 21. Oct 2014:
I'm sorry for the noise, but Tata wasn't aware when the work was supposed to start. The administrator of the building did not communicate it to any of the tenants. They knew the work was approved, but had no idea when it was beginning. At this point they are just painting so there shouldn't be any further noise issues.
Elizabeth on Jun 2014:

The place was clean and lovely. The kitchen was stocked with coffee and snacks for visitors. The owners were absolutely helpful and delightful. I will be recommending this beautiful B&B to my friends.
Cross-Pollinate is a wonderful service. I would highly recommend them to anyone looking for lodging in Italy!
Danielle Kruger on Jun 2014:

Owners of the property were very welcoming and took our comfort very seriously! It felt very home like while still providing privacy. Breakfast provisions were great. Good access to public transport meant that it was easy to get around and was close enough to all the sites to allow us to take a siesta!
Will be even more convenient when the works on the new Metro line are completed.
Using the this site meant we could make a confident choice with accommodation. Communication was great.

Tony and Dawn (AKA Antonio and Alba) on May 2014:

Highly recommend! Location, location, location...owners were magnificent, superbly helpful and accommodating! Even took the time to teach us how to make Italian coffee. Gave outstanding restaurant recommendations.
Install a Star Trek style teleporter machine so that we may enjoy REAL and fresh bread, salami, pastries and tomatoes on a daily basis back here in the land of processed food.
Very helpful
Kelli on May 2014:

The B&B was clean and comfortable and located away from the noisy tourist center. Public transit was easy to reach and the owners were very helpful with any requests we had.
Cross-Pollinate was wonderful to work with, very helpful and quick to respond.
Tori, New Zealand on May 2014:

A wonderful place to stay. Lovely and clean, tastefully decorated and the hosts have gone out of their way to ensure guests enjoy their stay in Rome. In the foyer are framed maps ( easy to photograph on your phone) showing all the essential services in the area- Bank, Laundromat, Supermarket etc- plus some of the best local restaurants. I tried 3 local restaurants during my stay and all were excellent. There are also maps of Rome and guidebooks to borrow for ideas. The B&B is in exceptional location for exploring Rome. A bus stop is right outside the door with 3 different lines into the city, plus the metro is a 10 min walk away. The apartment is in a mostly residential neighbourhood on the outskirts of the inner city so not touristy at all ( except you are the tourist!), and walking into the Ancient Centre is very feasible should you wish to do so. An ample continental breakfast is available daily with choices of cereal, toast, yoghurt plus a selection of fresh baked goodies along with prepackaged croissants and espresso or filter coffee and tea. Carolina and Giacomo checked in with me regularly to see if there was anything I needed and happily organised a taxi for me to the airport on departure. They are friendly, excellent hosts and i thought Tata B&B was a wonderful place to stay during my recent 6 nights in Rome.
Nothing the owners can influence. I see there have been a few comments on the Construction Works outside by previous reviewers. There certainly aren't pretty, but they are not noisy and they do not affect your stay in the B&B. On Day 1 you'll work out the orientation around the annoying high fences down the road and after that you just accommodate them. Not a major problem at all. Plus the bonus is that once they are completed there will be a metro station even closer to the apartment.
I found this site excellent having never used it before. The review of the B&B was accurate and communication from Cross Pollinate was excellent. A quick confirmation of my booking complete with all relevant information and a follow up email closer to my visit time.

We have had a wonderful time at your b&b and we\\\'ve enjoyed our honeymoon here. Your place is very clean and it is because of this reason that we managed to rest well every night
Shower room door is broken and water is easy to come out while showering

Really liked the hosts, they were always helpful and willing to take care of us. Called us a cab which was clutch one particular morning.
Location! But this will be improved once the "C" line is finally finished, for the B & B is literally in front of one of the proposed stations.
Very helpful.
Bill & Sandi Bellamy on May 2014:

Giacomo and Carolina were perfect hosts - extremely helpful, friendly, and speaking excellent English. I also liked having access to the breakfast room so I could have access to refreshment after a day of sight-seeing.
Nothing. Having stayed closer to the heart of the city on previous visits, I was concerned about B & B Tata's location. However, the Metro is a very short distance away.
All good
Deb Escobar on Apr 2014:

Giacomo and Carolina were so helpful. Both went out of their way to make our visit pleasant, and offered recommendations and other helpful tips. I injured my ankle when I tripped in a pothole, and Carolina was very compassionate and got me ice and gave me advice. They also helped us to make reservations for a bus trip to Sorrento. The B & B is extremely clean and well-kept, and the offerings for the breakfast were adequate. Wifi service worked well. We had a very pleasant stay.
A metro station is being added right in front of the B & B, so in April 2014 it's a bit messy. When the work is complete it will be extremely convenient for transportation.
I loved using Cross-Pollinate and would definitely consider using it again!

Giacomo & Carolina were the perfect hosts. I was a bit concerned about traveling alone in Europe for the first time, but both made me checked on me at different times to see if I needed anything making me feel like I was staying with friends. The location was perfect with 3 bus lines stopping right out front makeing it very easy to get anywhere I wanted to go. I would definitly stay here again. Molto Grazie Giacomo & Carolina!

Warm and helpful welcome. Immaculate room. Pleasant, practical breakfast kitchen. Perfect restaurant suggestions - we would not have found those without.

Emily Cabrera on Oct 2013:

The apartment is beautiful and comfortable. The location was great for me, as I was able to walk or use public transit to the main attractions of Rome, but appreciated staying in a place less traveled by crowds of tourists. The owners were especially wonderful; prompt in communication, warm, and helpful. They gave some great recommendations for places to eat and things to do and were gracious in helping me learn to find my way and get a car to the airport at the end of my stay.
Nothing. I had a great stay in Rome.
Super helpful service, flexible about my reservation dates, prompt in communication.
jeremy Bowling on Sep 2013:

EVERYTHING! My favorite part of stay here were the hosts Carolina and Giacomo. They both took excellent care of me during my stay and made sure I was well educated on the surrounding area, bus stops, and metro locations. They would frequently leave me hand written notes asking about my stay and giving me great travel advice and tell me some great spots to see where the sun sets or great places to eat. I was also emailed several times just asking how I was enjoying my trip in general. They are such warm and gracious hosts. They took me out for drinks one night and I was able to enjoy a tourist free authentic Italian night. It was amazing and one of the highlights from my trip. As soon as you walk into the B&B you are greeted with the wonderful smell of Lemon Grass. The ENTIRE B&B is immaculate and always very clean. My linens were changed regularly and my room was cleaned daily. Probably the cleanest place in all of Rome. The "extra" were amazing too. My air conditioning worked wonderfully, the shower was great and I had plenty of hot water, the internet ALWAYS functioned and was very fast. They had great snacks to eat on throughout the day as well. The entire place is beautifully decorated. The beds are SUPER comfortable and there are plenty of pillows. The showers worked great and I never ran out of hot water. The B&B is located ON a bus stop. Seriously you just walk out the door and there is a bus stop. I preferred the metro and the B&B is about a 5 minute walk from two different Metro Stops (Re Di Roma and San Giovanni.) The B&B is also located near several great restaurants as well and in a generally tourist free part of town. I really enjoyed to location and felt safe my entire trip. Lastly I want to add that Italian women are the most amazing and beautiful creatures on Earth.
I couldn't think of a single thing I would improve, it was perfect.
Cross-Polinate was great and easy to use. If it wasnt for CP I would not have found the amazing BnB I stayed at.

Perfect!!! Our room was very clean and comfortable. We enjoyed the wonderful scent of lavendar every time we walked into our room. Most importantly Giacomo and Carolina went above and beyond the call of duty to ensure our needs were met during our stay. They arranged several taxis and car service to the airport. Our time in Rome was magical. We will definitely stay again when we return.
Please don't change a thing.
Cross- Pollinate was very helpful to us, we could not have made our trip to Italy without your website. Thank you for all of your assistance.

Lovely room, comfortable and clean. Good clean bathroom fully equipped. Good breakfast supplied in pleasing dining area / kitchen. Hot drinks always available. Very nice welcoming hosts who met us late Saturday evening and gave good advice and had plenty of useful information. Good broadband access. Easy to get around Rome from here, especially as we like walking.
Bigger shower cubicle maybe.
So far so good including being met by taxi at the airport.

The location is convienent to metro, buses and the local neighborhood is pedestrian accessible. The owners were helpful and knowledgable about Rome attractions and transportation routes.

Clean, well taken care of. Bed was great, AC worked well. Carolina and Giacomo are amazing --above and beyond helpful. They facilitated some travel/tour arrangements for me, and took msgs when a tour had called with modifications and made sure I got the information. They are rock stars. Definitely can recommend this B&B
Would have been nice to have some fresh baked goodies one day, instead of the pre-packed. But then I guess you wouldn't have a reason to try the local coffee bars! Hosts did offer to get whatever was preferred for breakfast. A little out of the 'main' touristy hub --which can be a plus or minus. My stay was very quiet --if you are expecting to mingle with other guests that may not occur. (again can either be a plus or minus)
Responsive. Very helpful & would use again.

The air conditioner was very good. The bedroom was nice.
Provide better breakfast food. The location to the metro is and typical tourist spots was further than expected but was still very manageable.
Cross-Pollinate worked perfectly. I would definitely use it again.

The owner of Tata would like to mention for future guests that on arrival, they learned that these guests needed to eat gluten free. They specifically bought gluten free items for her, so they don't feel the criticism about the breakfast reflects what they were normally serve.
Teresa Palmar on Aug 2013:

Everything! The B&B was spotlessly clean and well-appointed, with a lovely kitchen and snacks and refreshments available at all times. The owner could not have been more helpful and friendly, with lots of advice and tips on how to get about. Would definitely recommend the Tata to anyone wanting to stay in Rome!
A real find! Incredibly helpful and with prompt replies. Will definitely use C-P again to look for accommodation in Italy, and have already mentioned it to my friends!
Bojan on Jul 2013:

The standard of the appartment was great and the location is quite but not to far from the center. Also the quarter is very local compared to other places and you can find some great restaurants and shopping possibilities nearby - just ask the owner.
Great first experience - will come back again!
Marilee on Jun 2013:

This was a beautiful place to stay! The bedroom, bathroom and kitchen were clean and lovely and the neighborhood was quiet. The woman who greeted us from Check-in Angels was lovely and helpful. She continued to check on us by email daily and responded to our texts and emails promptly. Coffee, eggs, meats & cheeses, yogurts, crackers and croissants were left in the kitchen for us each morning.
Instructions on how to use the European coffee maker would be helpful.
This was wonderful! We will definitely use Cross-Pollinate again on our next European trip and will recommend them to friends who are going. This was far better and more reasonably priced than some of the hotels we stayed at in other parts of Europe.

Such a warm welcome (back) to Rome. I'd originally stayed at The Beehive for the start of my trip, travelled through North Italy, and returned to Rome. Crosspollinate was perfect after the beehive's occupancy was maxed out and I came across this gem: B&B Tata. I had a lovely spacious room with a courtyard view, clean & hip bathroom, and a comfortable bed. Giacomo & Carolina welcomed me with open arms, big smiles and everything a traveler could ask for. I highly recommend B&B Tata to anybody visiting Rome.
It's located just outside the heart of Rome so it's a train or bus ride to all the action. Still very nice location.
Cross-pollinate is a genius platform for the low-budget yet high expectation traveler. Very easy to use with the fastest and friendliest service.
Shadieh Mirmobiny on Jun 2013:

I really enjoyed my room in the apartment. It was very comfortable and roomy, bright and cheerful. The location was also very convenient to the grocery market and public transportation. The staff at the apartment were very helpful and knowledgeable.
The breakfast menu could use some improvement. Fresh fruits and pastries (rather than just prepackaged croissants), and eggs (although they provided me with eggs when I asked) There was no kettle to boil some water to make tea.
I definitely had a positive experience. I would love to stay there again. I will recommend B&B to my friends. The Cross Pollinate staff were very accommodating.Thank you Cross Pollinate for facilitating my stay in Rome.
Larissa on Jun 2013:

The owner Giacomo was super friendly and helpful, suggesting places to eat and explore. The room was clean and pleasant. It is near public transportation, there is a bus that runs by the front door although I ended up walking to the San Giovanni Metro stop about 10 mins away because it was easier for me than trying to figure out the bus system and also the traffic in Rome center can be a good reason to avoid roads anyway. The WiFi was great, especially since my cell doesn't work in Italy. Great people, pleasant stay, I would recommend to anyone.
The construction of a new Metro line is happening in the area and is kind of an eyesore, obviously not something the B&B has any control over but I think it should be mentioned. They had a map that was being used by a different guest so maybe more than one map would be nice, If a map for the ATAC public transport system in Rome EXISTS it would be great to have it available at the B&B, I have yet to see one so maybe it doesn't.
Cross-pollinate is great. Very responsive to questions and great follow-up. Would definately use their services again and recommend to others. It was like having a trusted friend recommend a place to stay.

I had a wonderful stay at B&B Tata and i would've returned two weeks later had it not already been fully booked. The B&B is quiet, secure and spotlessly clean. Giacomo and Carolina were wonderful, providing local suggestions, answering any questions and ensuring I had everything I needed. The location is fabulous and very accessible; its a quiet residential area that is a short walk from both San Giovanni Metro station and ancient Rome.

The location is about 5-10 minutes from the metro but with a bus stop outside. 20 minutes walking will get you into ancient Rome and 5 mins the other direction is a nice area of bars. I would highly recommend and would stay again if I visit Rome again.
I had a smallest amount of trouble finding the building. Maybe list that it is in flats and to look for the name on the B&B on the buzzer of the block.
Very useful website and a good recommendation from Frank's B&B when they were fully booked.

It was conveniently located near the Colloseum and surrounding sites. well within walking distance. The apartment was very well appointed and well maintained. It was relatively new I believe. The host was available and helpful. The food/breakfast selection was acceptable.
My morning mood is largely determined by my first cup of coffee especially on vacation/holiday. It isn't very good in Italy in general (admittedly, by American standards). Maybe try an American import for visitors from the colonies.

Everything. Caroline and Giacomo have a GREAT place to stay. It's close to the Termini/Coloseum/Forum, etc. It's also very clean and neat, and they are VERY hospitable hosts. In fact, we were in such a rush that we didn't even have time to get to an ATM to pay in Euro's. Giacomo took US $ and later informed me that I overpaid after the exchange to euros. They personally delivered the overpayment difference to my next B&B on the other side of Rome. Their honesty is much appreciated and heart-warming.
I honestly don't have any comment here. They provided excellent information/maps and suggestions on places to eat, sight-seeing, etc. Our group (4) was very impressed with this B&B and the management thereof. Don't hesitate to stay here. their prices were nearly 35% less than the prices you'll find in the Rick Steve's books.
EXCELLENT ALL AROUND! I will avoid the suggestions in the R. Steve's books and use Cross-pollinate exclusively in the future... very honest people, very convenient locations and excellent prices on great rooms!

That's great to read, but we're one of the suggestions in Rick's books so don't avoid ALL of them ;)
