As a hotel owner, I'm a bit jealous of how well designed this place is. Not only does it have stylish, comfortable furniture and a large, spacious bathroom, but there is literally every amenity you could want: each room has A/C, wifi and your own personal computer; an espresso machine; double glazed windows so thick you wouldn't hear a jackhammer even if it was blasting a hole in the wall just outside; mini-fridge and personal safe; key card locks that automatically turn the lights out if you've forgotten to shut them off.
An iPod dock and alarm right by your bed? Check.
Beautiful, flatscreen, satellite TV? Of course.
Comfy mattresses and nice linens? Ok, I'll stop.
There's even electric plugs on the counter of the breakfast area so you can read the news in the morning on your laptop and charge up your iPhone over a cappuccino (that is, of course, if you want to have your coffee in the sunny breakfast area and not in the privacy of your own room).
Beyond being really beautiful and well thought out, it's also got an amazing team behind it, comprised of 2 Italian women (one who was born in NY) who speak perfect English, a super-sweet afternoon staff member and breakfast attendant who is also on-call for emergencies at night. Since they have 10+ years experience working with expatriates who are relocating to Rome, they know how to do an orientation of the city and help you find all the stuff that will make your stay memorable, whether it's great food, shopping, or simply how to get around.
As for location, it's about a 15 minute walk from Termini station just past Rome's ethnic quarter, Piazza Vittorio (an area that they can help you learn to love). It's also a short walk to San Giovanni in Laterano, the official Basilica of Rome, or the Colosseum and Roman Forum. There's a red line metro stop, Manzoni, about 2 blocks away, that can take you right to the Spanish Steps or the Vatican in about 10 minutes - 15 minutes.
At Home is a great blend of what you want in a fancy hotel, but with down to earth, personal care. They also own a second At Home, which is located just north of the train station, that's similar in every way except it doesn't have a breakfast room.
