Lila's Apartment
Lila's Apartment is a 1-bedroom, 1-bath apartment located near Testaccio, one of the oldest and most typical Roman neighborhoods, and right down the street from the Piramide Cestia (an ancient Roman monument of a giant pyramid!). Owned by a friendly Italian-Brazilian couple, this apartment is extremely well-maintained and you'll find everything clean, tidy, and in working order. The attentive owners stock the apartment with information they think tourists might find useful (maps, monthly publications of events going on in the city, pamphlets about Rome, etc) and upon check-in they're happy to answer any questions guests have. They also offer use of a cell phone, which comes with about 5 euros of credit so that guests can contact them with any questions or problems, or make any other necessary phone calls (guests are welcome to recharge the credit at their own expense if they run out and wish to use the phone more). The apartment, which sleeps up to 4 people, has a main bedroom with queen-sized bed, and a fold-out double sofabed and single sofabed in the living room. The kitchen is fully equipped with eating and cooking utensils, as well as a microwave and American coffee maker. The owners leave some basic breakfast items in the kitchen for guests, such as coffee, tea, fruit, cereal, and jam. Other amenities included are air-conditioning, fan, stereo, iron and ironing board, washer/dryer, hair-dryer, and mini-safe. The apartment is on a busy street, but the windows are double-paned so it stays quiet inside. A portable baby crib is available upon request. The apartment is a 5-minute walk from the Piramide metro stop (blue line) and the train station where you can get trains to Fiumicino airport, Ostia beach, and Ostia Antica. You can also walk to Testaccio from the apartment, or across the river over to Trastevere. The neighborhood is residential, so nearby you'll find supermarkets, coffee bars, restaurants, a post office, tabacchi shops, and anything else you might need.

Lila's apt was perfect! My adult son and Inused it as a two bedrooms. The pull out couch/bed was surprisingly comfortable! I loved being Judy a few metro stops from everything, but being able to go back to a non-tourist neighborhood each night. Also, Lila was lovely! There was a bowl of delicious fruit to welcome us. And in spite of the fact that I didnt bring enough cash, Lila was very understanding and walked us to a cash machine as part of a neighborhood tour. And worse, I left a pair of earrings in the apt that Lila graciously offer to return to me. Couldn't be more satisfied! And we highly recommend the local restaurant below (Emilio's) where we had a delicious and reasonably price meal!
The only tiny glitch was that we visited in a sweltering, record-breaking heat wave. And when each bedroom had the air conditioner on, we blew the fuse a few times. But Lila had prepared us for this possibility and we knew just what to do. No biggie and we were so grateful for the cool respite!
The site was wonderfully accurate. I felt bad for a family we met traveling who paid about €200 for a couple and two children and a CD hotel room at Romina. They would have been quite comfortable in the apartment and for half the price!

Clean, comfortable, well-stocked apartment, with keyed lobby entrance, elevator, air conditioning, within two blocks of metro, train, bus terminals and supermarket, fruit stand, bakery. Also quiet, any street noise is effectively blocked by windows. Landlady was very helpful, met us at train station on arrival. Arranged check-out with cleaning lady to meet our departure schedule.
Very good, recommend to others.

close to the train station and on the first floor with an elevator
internet was working which was a drag and there was no wine opener or toilet paper. no biggie, we bought a wine opener and the tp. lila wasn't sure why the internet wasn't working but it didn't for us for the 3 days...tried everything to sort that out to no avail.
great experience, just wouldn't have booked a flat that was on such a busy street so we had to sleep with windows closed and use the AC. location was great though and flat was super clean. shower stall the size of a phone booth, so a bit small for anyone bigger than us - might be a problem for some big guys, they wouldn't fit in the shower. otherwise, it was fine. will stay off the main drag next time!

Response from the owner, Lila: I'm sorry if the internet wasn't working for you. It was working fine for us and previous guests both before your arrival and after, so it might have been due to your computer and not the actual wifi. 2. We leave a minimal amount of toilet paper - as a self catering apartment any other consumables are your responsibility, but there definitely was toilet paper on arrival. I also leave oil, salt, pepper, sugar, spices, cleaning supplies etc. so that guests can cook without having to purchase all these basics (this is not standard in a vacation rental, in my experience). 3. The shower stall is 70x70 cm, a standard size for most homes and hotels throughout Europe. 4. Rome is definitely a loud and lively city. The noise is a relative issue. For people who come from very rural and/or quiet areas, it can be a shock. It's definitely part of Rome's personality though and not easily avoided. Despite these issues I do hope you enjoyed your stay especially considering the price savings (less than a hostel bed per person)!

Lots of space and having a washing machine. Close to the metro. Very helpfull owners. We would stay again
It was very noisy outside on the friday and saturday night. Just part of being in a large city on a main road

The apartment was much more spacious than we imagined. Everything was clean and well appointed. Neat little building with a cool cage-like elevator. Close enough to cafe, transit, etc.
Given the amount of space, the bathroom could probably be updated to include a more spacious shower--it would make it feel a bit more luxurious.
Staff was great. We virtually had to do nothing. Reservations, check-in/out, and payment were a breeze!

Lila was extremely helpful with welcoming us to a new country and answering all of our questions. The apartment felt safe and was reasonably quiet from neighbors or outdoor noise. We really enjoyed our stay here. Thanks Lila!
We enjoyed having a washing machine but had no way of drying the clean clothes. Perhaps a line available to hang clothes dry in front of the windows. (Perhaps there was a trick we didn't know?)
Website was efficient, informative, and easy to navigate. Staff was quick to respond to emails and give helpful answers to all questions. Hope to use Cross-Pollinate again...and soon!

Sorry, there was a trick: there is a folding drying rack inside the cupboard in the kitchen! - Lila
