Appartamento Michelangelo
Located in Testaccio, a blue-collar neighborhood that's just enough off the beaten path to appeal to people who want to see a more authentic side of Rome. However, from here, you can also walk across the river into Trastevere, or jump on the blue line metro which will connect you to the Coloseeum, Roman Forum and Termini, as well as the red line metro that goes to the Spanish Steps and the Vatican.

The area has a large covered market for amazing produce, one of the best deli's (Volpetti) for cheeses and deli meats. There's many restaurants well known by foodies, and the Citta' dell'Altro Economia - a large space that used to be Rome's central slaughterhouse that is now used for all kinds of alternative fairs.

For culture, there's the Macro museum, the Piramid of Cestius and the non-Catholic cemetery, where Keats and Shelley are buried.

The apartment is a two bedroom but one bedroom doubles as the living room and has a single bed and a large sofa bed. There's 1 bathroom with shower, and a narrow kitchen (typical of Roman apartments) that's fully equipped and has room for 4 to eat.

Cassandra Cline on Jun 2017:

I arranged an apartment for my daughter and family. Stefano was very cooperative and communicated immediately concerning our reservation. The apartment was perfect, clean, spacious and provided all the needs. Testaccio is within easy walking distance. Appartmento Michelangelo was a positive factor in the success of our family vacation.
It's a great apartment, perfect as is.
As always, Cross-Pollinate is the go to company for travel arrangements in Italy. They are the best.
T. Caldwell on Sep 2016:

Located in a working class, somewhat gritty neighborhood, we found the apartment to be a charmer. There is a small, but adequate elevator that gives easy access to the sixth floor unit. The living room opened to a small balcony overlooking the Via Ostiense, one of the neighborhoods main thoroughfares. The bedroom opened on too a similarly small balcony, with a view of the surrounding apartment blocks. The bedroom was adequate in size for the two of us and the two beds were arranged to make a king. The bathroom was recently remodeled, with the typical small shower stall and a washer. The kitchen was average, with a minimum of cookware, but who would want to eat there own cooking in Italy? For the cost to value ratio, we thought 85€ per night to very good. Although the apartment location is off the tourist map, my wife and I found it to be very convenient to get to all the sites via the Metro. The Pyramide Metro/bus stop is only two blocks from the apartment, and the train station is a similar distance. There is a Conrad grocery store a long block's walk and Eataly is about an eight-ten minute walk in the other direction. There are several local eateries just outside the apartment buildings door. We ate at three during our stay, with our favorite being Da Enzo, just by the apartment buildingqfront door. Red and white checkered tablecloths and family operated with a neighborhood atmosphere, we were the only English-speakers there the night we had dinner. Not to worry, though. The owner speaks passable English and there was no problem with ordering any of the well- prepared dishes on the menu. We were ably assisted on arrive by the owner's representative, Leon. He is A Brit, but a 12 year resident of Rome and was most helpful in answering all our questions and making transportation, sightseeing and restaurant recommendations. All things considered, this is a great location for those independent travelers who value price and an authentic neighborhood expirence.
My chief gripe was the lack of quality pillows. This is essential to a good night's sleep and was the only thing I was unhappy with at the apartment.
We had a great expirence with Cross Pollinate. Steve was so helpful in presenting a number of apartment options for our stay. He also had terrific advice on trip planning that saved us time, money and unnecessary stress. We will use their services again on our next trip to Italy!
