Appartamento Marco Aurelio
About 2 blocks away from the Colosseum, this 1 bedroom apartment is on the 2nd floor of an old building (but with elevator) and is lived in part time by its owner, who keeps it very clean and tidy. When you walk in, there's a living room with dining room area, TV and AC. This room faces the inner courtyard and has a fairly wide sofa bed. Down off this room is the bedroom, which faces the street but has double paned windows which blocks the neighborhood noise which is quite active during the day but pretty calm at night. There's a bathroom with tub and shower, and an eat-in kitchen, full of appliances and cookware.

The air-conditioning is in living room but not the bedroom - but if left on, ought to cool down the whole apartment. There's also a nice cross breeze if the windows are all open.

In the neighborhood, apart from the Colosseum, are a few very good, inexpensive restaurants, a grocery store as well as a street fruit and vegetable market, cafes, wine bars, and gelateria. Basically everything you need! The metro too is just on the other side of the Colosseum and there's also a small electric bus that leaves from the end of the street that does a loop from here through the historic center, stoping at the Spanish Steps and Piazza di Spagna.

Miky I on Jun 2016:

The apartment was so convenient to buses & metro as well as the Colosseum and other major sites. The apartment was as described. Also close by were neighborhood grocery stores & restaurants. Definitely not as touristy the further you are away from the Colosseum. Also a good find was San Clemente church so close by. . . It was built on layers of history!
Wonderful experience w/cross pollinate. Second time we used them. Always very responsive and helpful from asking advice on where to stay to arranging p/u at Rome airport. Wish we had more time to go and meet Steve and gang when we were in Rome. Would have loved to thank them in person. Have recommended Cross Pollinate to my friends!
Steve on May 2016:

We loved how close it was to all the tourist sites. Easy to get around. Perfect location. Also Claudia was perfect to work with. Very kind, easy to get ahold of, answered all questions.
Steve was great to answer questions before our stay. He booked us a hired car from the airport because we had a very late arrival. Always got back to me quickly. Can't say anything bad.

The apartment was clean, comfortable, and fully functional. Modern bathroom, fully stocked kitchen, really very nice. Location is great; while close to the Colosseum and Forum tourist areas, it is also part of a traditional old neighborhood with many "locals" restaurants, cafes, and bars. You can escape the tourist masses easily! The Carfour Express supermarket is very handy nearby. Short walk to the Colosseo metro station.
Not much as the flat is really nice. A VERY minor issue was the absence of an international news channel on the tv like BBC, SKY or CNN.
The experience was uniformly positive. Our driver met us at the airport and dropped us off when we left exactly on time as arranged. The flat owner and assistant met us and invited us in even though we were early. They were very helpful in going over the apartment and things in the area. I recently had a very bad experience with Home Away, and the professionalism and courtesy of Cross-Pollinate more than made up for that.
Peter Kasurak on Sep 2015:

This was an excellent location and the apartment met all expectations.
Hosts might provide a map of the neighbourhood with the supermarket and bank machines marked on it. These were harder to find than usual -- but very close and convenient once found.
This was a good experience all round. No glitches.
Anne on Aug 2015:

The location of this apartment is fantastic--a block from the Colosseum, yet in a neighborhood with grocery stores and restaurants frequented by locals. Coming back to this calm, quiet apartment at the end of a day in the busy city was a joy. The building is residential, and I loved that the apartment felt as if the owner had just stepped out--she provided a comfortable home away from home.
Everything was great!
Cross-Pollinate stands out for providing real people to contact and help locate apartments. Steve assured me that the neighborhood was safe, that he knew the owner, and that my choice was appropriate. Having an independent person to discuss my options with made me feel at ease. A fantastic service that I will definitely use again and highly recommend!

The convenience of having a full apartment so close to the Colosseum in a good neighborhood. It provided many of the conveniences of home in the heart of ancient Rome at a reasonable price.
They did everything professionally including the apartment reservation and airport pickup. They answered all my questions promptly.
Brian on Dec 2014:

Great location. Clean. Well priced. Helpful owner.
Great resource. Will use again.

Great location near metro, bus routes and Colosseum. Good facilities including dishwasher, washing machine, reliable shower and lots of cutlery, crockery & cooking equipment. Has a nice homely atmosphere. There is a small supermarket nearby (on Via Annia) and good restaurants too (particularly Tajut & Clementini). Would highly recommend this as a place for 1 or 2 people to stay.
Mattress on bed was a little saggy. Happy with everything else (particularly given the price in relation to other Rome apartments).
Responded to my e-mail enquiry quickly. Sent a very thorough confirmation e-mail including detailed directions and information on Rome. No complaints.
Ron Tosch on Sep 2014:

Location is great, with both sites and public transportation close by. Supermarket literally 1 block from the apartment.
All was good. Little noisy on weekend nights, but nothing earplugs can't handle.
Great!
Jenny Dodds on May 2014:

Amazing location, good facilities, really helpful owner, cross-pollinate were very helpful too. Small but cosy with a very comfy bed and nice bathroom. Great fridge!
The apartment is a little dark but it is a small price to pay for such a great location!
Easy to use, good search function, got back to me very quickly and were very helpful.
Cees Mager on Dec 2013:

Great location around the corner from the Collosseum, near the metro station and with beautiful bar-restaurant Propaganda right at the corner and restaurant Il Bocconcino around the corner. We could discover the city on foot easily. The cosy small apartment was comfortable, with a well equipped kitchen and a comfortable bed.
There's supposed to be a roof terrace, which the friendly owner forgot to tell us about. If it has a view on the Colosseum, that would be awesome!
If you receive the confirmation of your reservation, there's no direct link to the apartment in the email. Also, you cannot search the website via the name of the apartments.
Admin on 05. Jan 2014:
I'm not sure why you thought there was a terrace - none is listed.
brenda fitzpatrick on Oct 2013:

Very close to the Colosseum and metro. Some very nice moderate restaurants near by. Also owners were very nice and reasonable when I had an accident in the kitchen. Bed comfortable and good window to keep out noise
Wi fi worked only 1 day for us and could not get phone service even when we stood by the bed room window as instructed. Instructions for appliances did not make sense to me.
1st time and I think I will try it again. Very helpful when we had mishap and communicated with owners with us due to lack of phone communications

GREAT Location near the Colosseo. My husband and I wanted to be near the historic parts of Rome and this was perfect. When we arrived, the owner had an English speaking friend with her, so all instructions were clear. We loved her interesting collection of art and ancient objects. It was very homey, and was a great place to have breakfast in the morning, and have some espresso from the little espresso pot. Easy to learn to use. We had a cup of caffe with the owner and her friend the first day! Her recommendation for caffe down the street across from the police station was right on-Alessandro made excellent caffe. Nice to not be with all the tourists! Also, very safe neighborhood, with police a block away...
Being spoiled and "got-to-have-it-right-away" Americans, we had to get used to not having a microwave. Not a big deal, but we realized how we were so accustomed to having one! Bedroom was a bit noisy, but as someone else said, that is Roma! We would definitely come here again when we come to Rome again.
Steve and Amy from Cross-Pollinate were great. Very helpful and thorough. Concerned that all our questions were answered and all details addressed. We highly recommend using the pick up service at the airport. They were there on time, waiting for us, with our name on a piece of paper. We were surprised at how fast we got out of the airport-no one seemed to be checking who took what bags(!) We definitely go through Cross-Pollination again, which was a referral from a friend who used them. We will be doing the same! Thanks, Steve and Amy!

We really enjoyed the location waking past the colosseum every day. There are some very good restaurants nearby. The train station is close enough. The hosts were very clear and helpful. The kitchen is very well equipped. The main bed very comfortable. The apartment was clean and welcoming. The Internet was good.
The main bedroom gets a lot of noise from the street but there is nothing the owners could do about that, they already have shutters and good glass windows so just Roma !
Cross-pollinate was very helpful and the properties we stayed at were all great. They all had that extra touch and were better than those I booked using other services.
