Le Montmartrois Apartment
This is a bright first floor flat (about 45 square meters) in a calm street close to Montmartre (as you would have guessed by the name "Montmartrois"! The name of the street is actually "Rue Montcalm", which translates to "Calm-Mountain" street. Sounds pretty inviting, no?

Entirely renovated and owned by a young woman, Sylvia, who has started a small family run vacation-rental business in 2012 and is as eager to do as great a job as possible. Between herself and her parents, who live just one street over, they own 3 apartments in the neighborhood and have converted them into vacation rentals with brand new, super-clean furnishings. Maintenance-wise it's in the best of hands - her father's, who is a handyman.

Her apartment is pleasant, colorful and playful. Located in a modern building form the 60s, with elevator, there's a living/eating area with double sofa bed upon entering, and a separate kitchen to the right. The bedroom has an attached bathroom that can also be accessed from the living room. The decor is very 'clean', with some design touches and an emphasis on Paris as a tourist Mecca.

The neighborhood is just at the bottom of Montmartre (a couple flights of stairs to climb and you're there!). It's a nice mix of residential and Parisian, almost "elegant" but also still multicultural and not too touristed. Naturally, you have lots of cafe's, eateries, and bakeries, one of which, on rue Ordener 159, has won the award for 'Best Baguette" for 5 years in a row. There is also a marketplace area with open air market for fruits, veggies, cheese, fish, etc.

A nice little park and playground are also only a few minutes by foot, on Square Clignancourt. The closest metro line, Jules Jouffrin stop, line 12, is a short walk away, making it easy to get to other parts of the city.

No pets please!

Nicely decorated
Communication with the owner was very poor. I called several times upon our arrival to Paris, left messages on voicemail, and never received a return call. We had a tough time finding the apartment. It was much further out of the city than we expected, and it was tough to find. Thankfully the owner's father was there when we arrived. He was a very nice man, but only spoke Portuguese. All of the instructions were in French (how to use WiFi, the washer/dryer), so there was a major language barrier. We asked when the owner would be arriving, as we had many questions before we paid her. We understood she would be there later that evening, around 7:30, so we did some quick sight-seeing, and came back to the house. She never showed up. I left more voicemail messages, and never heard back, so I tried email. She did respond to email, and we arranged to meet the following night. She was very friendly, and did speak English. She never did fix the WiFi, though she promised she would. Her Dad came the next day to repair the shower head, and it worked a bit better (hardly any water came out). We asked if we could have more toilet paper and towels (we were given 1 towel each, and 1 roll of toilet paper for a family of 4, for 6 days). She said that what she provided was standard. So we had to go purchase more toilet paper, and clothes detergent. Other Cross Pollinate apartments provided these things upon our arrival, in addition to basic items in the kitchen, such as coffee, sugar, salt - none of these things were available to us at this Paris apartment. The owner was kind, but said she works a lot and is very busy. It seems that she needs to take more time and give more attention to the travelers who are renting from her.
Easy, organized, and efficient.

As a self-catering apartment, all the disposables are the responsibility of the guest. The owner does leave the basics, but after that, it's up to the guests to replenish for themselves. This varies a lot between apartments and sometimes what you get is what others have left behind and not what owners plan for. As for the communication issues, the owner says she was called and phoned back and that the internet was fixed for one device, and then 2 later they asked her to connect multiple devices, which she then resolved for them.
