A really great idea - with a network of hand picked little rooms/guesthouses. If only we could have this in more city destinations! - Zoe Buck
I love Cross-Pollinate and every time we go to a new city I look to see whether they have some accommodations over there. - Arantza Aldea
The two places I have stayed at from Cross-Pollinate have been among the best across Europe. Highly recommended. - Nicholas Burn
Thanks a lot to Cross-Pollinate for the opportunity to experience a city as an insider! We really enjoyed our stay in Rome and Venice and look forward to more. - Tatiana Marchenko
Cross-Pollinate was very helpful when the owner of the B&B wanted to charge us for the baby under 2 y o. It would have been difficult without them since the owners did not speak any english. - Yulia Pichugina
This was our only stay with a C-P apartment and we were very pleased with the entire process. Will look to use them again on our next Europe trip! - Anthony Giglio

Cross-Pollinate was fantastic and easy to use. We used Cross-Pollinate to book a room in Florence (the second leg of our trip), which was everything I thought it would be. We have recommended Cross-Pollinate to our friends. - Barbara Carlin
Cross-Pollinate are great - the descriptions are accurate and they are very responsive to questions. - Dominique Bayne
Cross Pollinate was just the best. I had tried a couple of places before coming upon them. As soon as I sent the first email I stopped looking for any more websites. I just wish they expanded to every city in Europe. Their knowledge, helpfulness, etc. was second to none. - Caroline Collis
Casa di Barbano
Casa di Barbano is a traditional, family-run B&B with a friendly atmosphere that will make you feel at home. The owner, Chicago-born Moraq, her Italian husband, and their two small children live just behind the B&B. Their apartment is separate, allowing both them and the guests privacy, but attached via a door in their kitchen leading onto the B&B's hallway; this situation makes it convenient for guests checking in at any time of the day, needing to ask a question, or in case any problems arise. You can usually find Moraq at home taking care of the B&B with baby Benjamin in tow; the day I visited she was busy cutting out red paper hearts at her kitchen table to decorate the room of guests celebrating a special anniversary. She especially enjoys hosting families -- there is a small grassy inner courtyard behind the B&B and they like it when kids stay and want to play with their daughter Giorgia round back. The B&B has 3 immaculate, spacious rooms with lovely high ceilings, and is decorated in a classical style. The rooms each have private ensuite bathroom, air-conditioning, TV, mini-safe, mini-fridge and hair dryer. In the common room guests will find books to consult, a guitar to play, and a telephone available for short conversations. The B&B is located on a quiet street a short walk from the train station and the San Lorenzo outdoor market, as well as being just a block from the exposition center Fortezza da Basso and two blocks from the conference center Palazzo dei Congressi, making it a perfect choice for travelers who need to go to either of those venues. The historic center is reachable by a quick bus ride, or a 15-minute stroll. Casa di Barbano is on the ground floor of the building, which is great for tired travelers who would rather not lug their baggage up several flights of stairs.

Simple, clean, comfortable and staff was so helpful. Called cab for our pick up on our last day and cab arrived in 2 minutes. We were even given our brioche in a take away bag since we left before breakfast. Close to train station and many other places we wanted to see. Will be back as our son and his family live about 2-3 blocks away so perfect location to him.
Cross-pollinate has always been efficient and helpful. Love this website!!

We had a really wonderful time at Casa di Barbano. From the warm, friendly, hospitable staff who to the interior design and friendly presence of oddities (such as sweets, and a cat or two in the garden!) Lovely breakfast given too. Not so far from the centre either. Will definitely be booking into Casa di Barbano next time I am in Florence.

We liked everything about this B&B! The owner Moraq was very helpful and lovely, and the location for us was great for the main train station and great food. Beds were comfortable, and the room had plenty of storage for our belongings. Breakfast was nice and we really appreciated that she made us Italian perculated coffee.
Maybe the selection of breakfast could be more? We don't normally eat pastries for breakfast so a more savoury option would have been nice.
Easy and reliable.

Great location, beautiful and clean accommodation, friendly and very helpful owner.

Nice and cosy room, Breakfast in room each morning at time you request. Close to train station. Close to many amenities such as laundry, market, restaurants. Also close to bus line but we did not take the bus.
The room was pretty small. Smaller than we had expected. There was barely any room to place our luggage and we only had 2 carry on roller bags. The room could use an additional table or desk.
It was a fairly seamless transaction. We didn't have any problems with cross pollinate or the owner. The owner was on vacation and we did not see her. We dealt with a friend of the owner who knew what was going on for the most part.

Moroq was welcoming, helpful and provides a lovely room and a delicious breakfast. I highly recommend Casa Di Barbano.
As in the other places we stayed in Italy, there is a lack of towel racks for some reason. I understand that the towel warmer is used but it really is not the same. Hardly a criticism.
I feel the confidence we had in booking the rooms we had in Italy thru Cross-Pollinate was not misplaced. It was reassuring that Cross-Pollinate would be there should a problem arise. Apparently Cross-Pollinate does a very good job of screening. Thanks so much !

Moraq is very helpful and friendly, she even booked museum tickets for us and offered great restaurant recommendations. The breakfast was good and hot but light. The room was very clean and nice and quiet at night. We were also just a few minutes walk from the Accademia, the Mercato Centrale and leather market. Great location!
Please provide an iron for your guests. Softer towels would be nice too.
Kim on Sep 2011:

This b&b was wonderful in every way - a gracious hostess, beautiful and spacious rooms with plenty of light, and a decent light-fare breakfast (small pastries and GOOD coffee - yes, I couldn't find "american" coffee until I arrived here...) The location of the B&B was very good, only a few minutes walk to everything we wanted to see in Florence. Me and my wife also felt very safe and comfortable walking around the area at night - there were families in the near-by piazza at night with the kids playing freely (made us lament how this didn't happen in American cities). Maroq was incredibly helpful and her stories of life in Italy were extremely captivating. -Andrew and Kim Hobby
Excellent - this service made our honeymoon a wonderful trip and I recommend it to anyone I come across who is traveling abroad.
