Unbelievably friendly and warm staff who gladly gave expert travel advice and recommendations that only a Roman would normally be privy to. - Loic Diels
I LOVE this website and will gladly recommend it to anyone headed this way. Nothing disappointed us! - Mary-Iris Taylor

A really great idea - with a network of hand picked little rooms/guesthouses. If only we could have this in more city destinations! - Zoe Buck
I love Cross-Pollinate and every time we go to a new city I look to see whether they have some accommodations over there. - Arantza Aldea
The two places I have stayed at from Cross-Pollinate have been among the best across Europe. Highly recommended. - Nicholas Burn

Cross-Pollinate was very helpful when the owner of the B&B wanted to charge us for the baby under 2 y o. It would have been difficult without them since the owners did not speak any english. - Yulia Pichugina

Cross-Pollinate was very easy to use, and it is so much better to stay in places like these than big corporate hotels; you get a much better feel for the place. - Kaspar Deane

Cross-Pollinate are great - the descriptions are accurate and they are very responsive to questions. - Dominique Bayne
Cross Pollinate was just the best. I had tried a couple of places before coming upon them. As soon as I sent the first email I stopped looking for any more websites. I just wish they expanded to every city in Europe. Their knowledge, helpfulness, etc. was second to none. - Caroline Collis
Althea Rooms
Althea Rooms is a simple, budget guesthouse that gets loads of positive reviews due to the owners, Antonio and Maura, who are genuine and helpful and always available when needed. Probably best suited for the young and easygoing traveler, the rooms are a mix -- some cheerier than others -- but all with private ensuite bathroom, portable A/C, TV, phone, fridge, mini-safe and computer with internet (as well as WiFi). One room has a shower that's located in a closet, and bathroom just outside the room, but in a private corridor. Althea is made up of two apartments, one that has a nicer entrance than the other, but if you can ignore the tight squeeze from the apartment door to some of the rooms, they are certainly clean and quiet once you reach them.

It's located on the south side of the Arno river in a neighborhood called "Oltrarno" which is famous for its streets lined with traditional artisan workshops (of mosaic, wood carving, and ceramics, for example), antique dealers, and art galleries. It is steps away from the Pitti Palace and Boboli Gardens, and a quick walk, perhaps 5-10 minutes, to the famous Ponte Vecchio which leads into the historic center of Florence. Its location makes it easy and quick to get around Florence by foot or bus, yet it is just outside the traditional center of the city so its streets are a little quieter and more tranquil.

Reviews
Ombre1 on Jan 2017:
We went there in June 2015. We had previously reserved a spot just a few steps away from Althea at Garage Fosi to park our rental car. The streets are narrow but we had a rather large car and had no problems driving although some maneuvering was required at times. Althea is ideally located in quiet street and all monuments and attractions are within walking distance, no real need to take a taxi or a bus. They do not serve breakfast but nearby cafes and bakeries offer all you need to start the day with a full stomach. A great place to stay when in Florence.
