INNBB Mariposa
The Mariposa is a guesthouse opened by a longtime collaborator. The MARIPOSABB is in walking distance of Gaudi's masterpiece La Sagrada Familia.

Located in a small private Modernist villa from 1926 (rather than in a multi-floor residential apartment building), the guestrooms are located on the ground floor of the individual home, and the owner and her husband live upstairs on the first floor. This house is Liberty style, decorated with antique furniture, oil paintings, and other artwork.

The 3 rooms all have private bathroom (2 are ensuite, and 1 is non-ensuite - unfortunately we can't guarantee in advance which you will have!). Two of the rooms are doubles with a queen-sized bed. The third room can also be a triple, as it has a queen bed and a single bed. The price includes air-conditioning, WiFi, and independent heating. Guests also have access to a kitchen where they are welcome to prepare meals, and they have access to the comfortable communal terrace as well. Bathrooms, kitchen, and common areas are cleaned daily.

The whole place has been decorated with attention to even the smallest details: handmade ceramic dishes and Liberty cups for breakfast, lace curtains, terra cotta floors, linen and cotton sheets, robes in every room.... The property, which was recently renovated, has maintained some of its original features like the typical Catalan arches, the wonderful wooden windows and doors, and the iron gates with their original decorations and the old iron butterfly logo.

The owner, who is an international tour guide, speaks several languages fluently (English, Italian, German, Spanish, Catalan). She is very friendly and are almost always on hand to help guests and answer questions and give information, as she lives in the same building. On arrival, she explains to her guests how to get around, where to go, what to see in town, and she offers good suggestions to enjoy Barcelona. Maps and books are provided.

The area is convenient, even though it's not right in the historic center of the city, because it's close to one of the stops for the direct airport train and just a few blocks from a metro stop (Line 5, Campo de l'Arpa) and bus stops. It's a quiet, residential area which is great for somebody who wants to explore the "non-touristy" side of Barcelona a bit, and who wants to get a good night's sleep!

Adorable decor, courtyard was cute, responsive and welcoming host, reasonably comfortable bed, quiet area, walking down the promenade toward Sagrada Familia to see the locals, air conditioning was sufficient
Provide GPS coordinates for location. Even with detailed instructions we had a hard time finding the home.
Don't care for paying in cash, which especially burdensome when you just arrived in a new city after a long flight.

What's not to like? Raffaela was a super pleasant host, and has lots of helpful resources available (maps, brochures, umbrellas, etc.), along with a decently -stocked kitchen for good coffee and breakfast in the morning. As noted in other reviews, the room was a little small - but we weren't expecting more - the bed was comfy, the en suite bathroom a bonus, and the room was cleaned daily. We ended up having a couple lovely exchanges with other guests as our paths crossed at breakfast. We liked being in a less tourist-y neighborhood with plenty of nearby bars, restaurants, and grocery stores plus easy access to public transportation; enjoyed the walk to and from the Metro; the proximity to La Sagrada Familia, and picturing ourselves as residents not just visitors. Maybe someday...
Would have loved some artisan baked goods for one or two of the breakfasts (a good loaf of bread or some pastries), but we also did fine in locating the nearby bakeries on our own - yum!
Cross Pollinate's stamp of approval gave me confidence in booking for 6-nights, and we were very pleased with that decision. The process was simple and communication with both CP and INNBB Mariposa was always prompt.

It was our third stay. We like the ease of access to surface and underground transit systems. We like the nearby amenities. The bed was comfortable. The WiFi was relatively fast on 6 of 7 days. The variety of breakfast supplies was very good. Access to the kitchen for midday and afternoon meal preparation was utilized
Room information on website. Each room should have a name, so it can be used to communicate effectively with the owner.
It worked well for us

We loved this location! Public transit was so convenient and the street was very quiet. We enjoyed being in a real neighborhood and Rafaela was a great host. She gave us a lot of information on local restaurants, etc. Having an en suite bathroom was very convenient. If we had cooked, the kitchen was well-equipped. The room itself was small but very functional and there were no stairs to climb - yeah!
The description on the website didn't match the space (I think Rafaela had moved) but we were fine with the new location and not having a patio except in the common area. Our only complaint was that the quality of breakfast varied a lot from day to day. Some mornings, supplies for cooking were abundant and other mornings, almost nothing.
We love Cross-Pollinate and would highly recommend it to other travellers. We wrote a more detailed review earlier.

I liked that breakfast - eggs, juice, milk (more on this below) and good coffee was provided and that we made it ourselves and ate whenever we wanted; the owners provided maps and transit info; easy to get to from the airport (via train); easy access to city bus; beautiful old home; bathroom cleaned everyday and fresh towels provided.
HOT water for the shower; we don't care for the (maybe they thought it was typical american?) breakfast food of wonder bread and kid-sugary cereals. We were hoping for a more European experience (good bread, fresh pastry, etc.) But seriously, it's not like we NEEDED more food, what was provided was totally adaquate.
The location is a bit odd but we are walkers and bought the T-10 transit pass so we made it work. The room is fine but cramped - only room for the bed and that's it. The kitchen/dining area is closed at 7:30pm so unless you stay out late there's nothing to do/go but sit on the bed. The hosts were gracious in letting my husband read in the dining room one evening. The hosts use the same kitchen and we felt just a bit that we were intruding into their home. Had there been a "sitting room" for guests we would have been more comfortable.
Admin on 26. Mar 2015:
The dining room is closed off to guests from 9:30 pm (21:30) and not 7:30pm and it's just for an hour or so, giving the hosts time to eat by themselves and to clean the room and prepare it for the next day. As for the breakfast, by law they aren't allowed to cook their own food, as that helps ensure food safety, so they can only provide pre-packed items.
