Appartamento Alla Fraterna

Alla Fraterna is a two-room apartment, located on the third floor of a beautiful 16th-century building (no elevator, but large stairs and entrance area). The owners, Mikela and Stefano, live next door with their two kids and are always nearby in case of questions or problems, and happy to give out information regarding the city: monuments, museums, exhibitions, tours, restaurants, shopping, and events.

The apartment is beautifully and tastefully furnished (Stefano is an architect and they have personally redone the entrance and stairs area of the building, giving it a very nice touch), with modern art and matching colors. It overlooks a typical 'calle' (street). It's on the small side but unlike many Venetian homes it's sunny and light, and will work perfectly for a family or small group of friends: there's one bright double bedroom, a living room with sofabed and kitchenette (which can be closed off, as it's in a closet), stocked with self-service breakfast items such as bread, croissant, butter, marmalade, eggs, yogurt, corn flakes, juice, milk, tea, and coffee.

Alla Fraterna is well-located in the sestiere of Cannaregio, close to the Rialto Bridge and a 10-minute walk from San Marco square. It's just a few meters from local restaurants, typical Venetian bars, and Santa Maria dei Miracoli square. There are vaporetto stops nearby (Cà D'Oro for line 1 and Rialto for line 2). Since the Middle Ages, this part of the city has been strategic as it connected the northern lagoon with Rialto where, like today, most of the commerce was focused on the market and the banks. The street Alla Fraterna is on, Rio Terrà Bagatin, was one of the many small channels that the Venetian Republic later buried in 1773 and made into a normal calle. The name comes from before its burial, when it was crossed by a little wooden bridge called "of Bagatin" for a blacksmith of that name who was located there.
