Cross Pollinate was just the best. I had tried a couple of places before coming upon them. As soon as I sent the first email I stopped looking for any more websites. I just wish they expanded to every city in Europe. Their knowledge, helpfulness, etc. was second to none. - Caroline Collis
Ca' Pierre
Ca' Pierre should get an award for hospitality and the great care they take of their guests!

This large 4-bedroom apartment, furnished with a mix of modern, antique and original Venetian pieces, is located in my absolute favorite part of Venice: a quick walk will take you to San Marco and the Rialto bridge (about 10-15 minutes by foot, and you won't get lost, since you'll be able to take the beautiful shoreline walkway which takes you along the Grand Canal straight to the center). It's completely off the beaten track in a residential area of Venice which is considered truly the 'Venice of the Venetians'. Here, you'll flow with the locals and mostly run into kids playing, people going to work and opening their small shops, rather than tourists. People are extra-nice around here!

The owners like to describe their gem as "charming 1700s design with Murano glass chandeliers, and marble statues; yet you can find the modern comforts of air-conditioning, flat-screen satellite TVs in each bedroom and the living room, and a modern, newly renovated bathroom".

Overall, there are 4 bedrooms that can sleep up to 7 people -- one with a queen-sized bed, two with 2 single beds, and one with 1 single bed. There's one bathroom (with a large shower stall) with double sinks. There's also an open kitchen / living room area with exposed wood beam ceiling and two comfortable sofas. (Note: in case you book for a smaller group, some of the bedrooms might be closed off, as you won't need them!)

You really won't miss anything to make you feel at home here; everything is impeccably clean and well kept. You have a supermarket around the corner; bakeries, groceries, cafes right downstairs (and no rip-off prices! I had a 'Spritz', the traditional Venetian aperitivo, for 1.80 euro and a draft beer for 2 euros, a special pizza made of Kamut flour was only 7 euros!)

The owners, a father and son, are determined to make your stay truly special. At your disposal 24/7, Christian, the dad, is in charge of check-in (instructed by his son and armed with a list of English vocabulary words!) and meets guests at the vaporetto stop, while Lorenzo, the son, takes care of communication via email and phone, since he's the one who speaks English well.

The apartment is in tip-top shape, and Christian and Lorenzo make sure you'll feel spoiled: a welcome basket of fruit, the fridge stocked for your first needs upon arrival and probably after a long trip, slippers, shampoo and soap hotel-style, so you know you can relax.

Stacy Gwin on Jun 2018:

It was very clean and nicely located to local restaurants and must see spots. Great place for families or multiple couples. The owners of apartment was very helpful in pointing out local spots to eat and made sure we knew how to navigate to the apartment.
Kitchen is a bit limited with dining ware, cooking ware and drink ware. It’s a 4 bedroom apartment and it ended up just being two of us, so it was fine, I don’t think it would have been enough if all rooms were occupied. Since we only stayed 2 nights, we didn’t cook and restaurants are so accessible.
First time using cross pollinate and I would use it again for Int’l travel to big cities. Everything worked out just fine. Found a much better value to pricey hotels and got to experience what it was like to actually live in Venice.

The large apartment was immaculate and very well located. Christian was very helpful and we communicated fairly well in spite of our lack of Italian. We really appreciated his showing us all of the shopping areas in the neighborhood. This apartment with all of its antiques and charm is a real gem!! And again, the location is perfect - a quiet residential neighborhood but only a 10 minute walk to San Marco or to vaporetto stops.
There were some pots but no pans so we had to buy one from the local hardware store. There were also no sharp knives and only 6 dinner and soup plates. It was no problem for just the 2 of us but would be for a larger group. Also, there are 32 steps to climb up to the top floor where it is located, so if renters have a health condition, it is something to consider. For us, however, the climb was invigorating!!
This is the 2nd time we have rented through them and we could not be more delighted with this company. Only 10% down is needed and the rest is paid on the day of arrival. We were initially skeptical but will now always rent through them.

Beautiful, huge, historical apartment, layout offers a lot of privacy Top-notch furnishings, antiques, paintings, decorations, etc... Warm welcome and easy check-in and check-out Owner's family waited for us +++ because our flight was delayed Our second visit to this unit. Would book again without hesitation. Washer in the unit Nice appliances, kitchen layout
Some mildew in the shower (would only take 5 minutes to clean up) Toilet paper- there were only two rolls-annoying to have to go out and buy this
Problem-free, seamless booking

Wonderful, "off the beaten path" location. We loved having extra room for our family of 4 - it was a nice splurge at the end of our Italian vacation. Lovely bathroom with the best shower of the 3 apartments we stayed in in Italy. A treat to have air conditioning!
A few basics in the kitchen would be lovely - coffee, olive oil, etc.
Rosalea Dun on Oct 2015:

A lovely spacious apartment in a great location. A lovely welcome from Christian who met us by the canal and walked us back to the apartment pointing out landmarks and places of interest along the way.
Nothing that we are aware of
Excellent
Colleen Simpson on Mar 2015:

We were a family of six and stayed in April for three nights. Ca' Pierre was divine, impeccably clean, spacious, good beds, nice kitchen and above all, centrally located. Easy walk to vaporetto stop on Grand Canal and also on lagoon for trip to Murano, St. Marks, San Lorenzo neighborhood that we love for local color. Very good little trattoria across from the apartment and grocery store nearby. Christian, the owner was right on time to meet us at the #1 vaporetto stop and lead us to the apartment. He was very thorough in orienting us to everything. Photos faithfully represent this apartment that is well furnished. Shower was great too! We will be back someday and recommend this highly.
Really great staff with very good response time and detailed information. Highly recommend their service. Being an innkeeper myself, I know how appreciated this attention is to guests. Grazie mille!
Ron P on Dec 2014:

Our family of 4 very much enjoyed our stay at Ca Pierre apartment. The apartment is lovely. It is very clean and well maintained. We appreciated the large space (4 bedrooms total if you need all the space), the comfortable beds, the double sink bathroom, and the historic flavor. The location of the apartment is excellent. We enjoyed both the neighborhood and walking across the bridges to bring us into the more famous areas of Venice. Roughly 10-15 minutes to get to St Mark's. Lastly, Lorenzo (brother) and Maria (sister) was great hosts. Maria personally welcomed us at the Aresenale vaporetto station, oriented us to the apartment and neighborhood, and pointed out supermarket, pharmacy, and wonderful breakfast locations on the way to the apartment. Thank you for a lovely stay.
Nothing we can think of.
I liked the personal touch of Cross-Pollinate. I made a mistake with me original reservation, and it was easily corrected. Thank you.
Mike on Aug 2014:

Ca' Pierre is in a great neighborhood, out of the main hustle of Venice, but easily within walking distance of all the majors part of the city. Apartment had plenty of space for our family of four and the owners took very good care to make sure we had a great experience, showing us where to get coffee in the morning, groceries, and where to eat a great lunch nearby.
This was the first time I've used Cross-Pollinate, and I would highly recommend it. We used it in Venice and Rome and both apartments were great and in very good locations.
Susan Lang on Jun 2014:

Ca Pierre was the first (of two) Cross-Pollinate places we stayed on a recent three-week Italian adventure with three other couples. We were met by the host who was most helpful and felt that we lived in the neighborhood in Venice, not that we were tourists. He suggested a little tavern down the street for our first dinner and it was most delightful and authentic. We ate and drank wine with the locals. The apartment was furnished with things hundreds of years old, but was equipped with a modern kitchen and Wi-Fi. We loved the crooked steps!
Cross-Pollinate is a rare treasure. I've been traveling to Europe for over 40 years and was thrilled to learn about C-P via Rick Steves' travel guide. The people at C-P really want visitors to have a good visit and they do everything to help out! I will use C-P apartments whenever I can on future travels. Thanks!
Kristina Trubshaw on Jun 2014:

I liked that this apartment was just far enough from the tourists that you felt like you were part of the local community, but not so far that you felt isolated. You are able to access St Mark's Square and vaporettos within a 10-15 min walk. The apartment was clean and spacious with a well equipped kitchen and a large bathroom with spacious shower. We loved staying here and will stay here any time we return to Venice. Christian was so helpful and gave us lots of tips on finding good restaurants, markets and pharmacies. He even helped my husband find the TV channels for the World Cup games. :o} Thank you for such a wonderful stay!
Nothing, everything was perfect.
I enjoy using Cross-Pollinate. The website is easy to navigate, the listings are true to the descriptions, and the prices are much more reasonable compared to hotels in the same area. Cross-Pollinate is very prompt with communication and cancellations.
Wendy on May 2014:

The location of the apartment is fantastic. It's clean, spacious, and very comfortable. We enjoyed ourselves so much there in 2011, we rented Ca' Pierre again in 2014 and we weren't disappointed.
The internet connection only worked for the first few hours we were there. After that, it didn't work for the remainder of our stay. (We didn't attempt to contact the owner, as he was out of town and the young woman filling in for him spoke very little English.) Also, although it didn't matter in our enjoyment of the apartment, the description on Cross Pollinate mentions a welcome basket of fruit. We didn't receive a fruit basket on either visit. The refrigerator was stocked on our first rental in 2011, but nothing in the frig on our second visit.
Cross Pollinate is a terrific resource. I've used the site to rent several apartments and have always been very happy with Cross Pollinate's excellent customer service and wonderful listings.
Jan and William McKay on Apr 2014:

The cleanliness of this apartment was amazing. A lovely place!
Internet was one of the reasons we selected Ca' Pierre. However, there was a problem with the connection and we were not able to go online at all during our 3 night stay. If we had known we would have selected another place.
Cross Pollinate has been a great resource for selecting accommodations in Italy. Will definitely continue to rely on CP for other trips.
Neil Sampson on Mar 2014:

Great location, minutes from San Marco and the local vapparetto stop in wonderful Venetian neighborhood. The owner met us at the vapparetto stop and walked us to the apartment then gave us a map local places to eat shop and drink. It didn't take long to learn to negotiate the sites and places to visit. The apartment was wonderful. Roomy, clean, quiet and well equipped. We wanted to stay even longer because it was so comfortable for my wife and I and our teenage son.
Not much, it was great vacation stay.
Didn't go wrong using cross-pollinate. It was nice knowing that they were available if a problem arose.
Anitra Kitts - Bill VonSeggern on Dec 2013:

1) The apartment is fantastic, comfortable, everything works, and it has a specific character that reflects Venice itself. 2) The apartment owners were responsive and easy to communicate with. We were met at the vaparetto stop and walked to the apartment. The owners called out the important landmarks for finding the apartment again and also pointed out a great supermarket along the way. 3) The apartment is within easy walking distance of the major attractions but away from high tourist saturation areas. 4) Kitchen was better stocked then some kitchens and the WiFi worked well. Couches and beds were comfortable, storage for clothing was great.
Very minor suggestion: written documentation on how the heat works (apparently it is motion sensor driven).
Cross-Pollinate was easy to work with and this site is well designed. Cross-Pollinate lead us to a very cost effective and comfortable apartment in Venice. I plan to come back to this site for an upcoming trip to London.
basil on Dec 2013:

Very nice apartment, exactly as depicted in write-up.
1. Wi-Fi - I understand it is in the process of being installed 2. bathroom cleanliness - the glass shower doors had brown stains at the bottom 3. meeting up arrangement - owner insisted that I call when I arrived in Venice. I actually called him in the morning before leaving for Venice. However, my phone could not roam in Venice and he did not turn up at the meeting point at the agreed time. I had to pay a stranger to borrow a phone to call him, and he turned up at the pier only half an hour later. By then, we were cold, tired and freezing.
My first time. Great!
El on Jun 2013:

Spacious apartment, lovely modern kitchen and bathroom, clean, washing machine, owner met us off the ferry and walked us to the apartment which was nice, apartment is in a great location - 10 minute walk to St Marks Square.
TV guide of the TV channels, very hard to find any English channels.
Was great seeing reliable reviews before booking.
Vicky Loo on Sep 2013:

- Apartment is newly renovated, very comfortable and clean. - It's located at a quiet alley, away from the busy main street but still quite near to the main sights. San Marco is just minutes walk away. - Rooms are spacious and clean. - Kitchen is fully equipped and they even stock up the fridge with jam, water and also cakes. - The owner Maria is friendly and provide us with a lot of information about Venice. She even gave us the contact of her cousin, who a water taxi driver. We got discount from him for our ride to the Airport.
- there is no WiFi. But according to Maria, they are in progress in adding that to the apartment.
Easy and fast processing time when booking online with Cross-Pollinate.
Lisa Correa on Sep 2013:

The apartment was amazing. A great location, close enough to walk wherever we wanted, but far enough to be out of the tourist crowds at the end of the day. We love the local shops, bread shops, deli's, fruit stalls etc. We also loved that we could walk to St Mark's Square in about 10 mins. The apartment was VERY well equiped and definitely big enough for our family of four. We just loved VENICE and would recommend this apartment without hesitation.
Wi-fi please! And softer beds!!
Fantastic, easy, recommended!
Dean on Sep 2013:

The apartment was beautiful, clean and comfortable. The area was quiet. Our host was friendly and helpful.
Wi-fi would be nice.
All (three) of our Italian apartments on this trip were booked though Cross-Pollinate. All were accurately described and worked out well for us. Thanks!
Lori & David W -- Massachusetts USA on Aug 2013:

The apartment was absolutely perfect! Spacious for our family with 3 older teenagers! Very comfortable and extremely clean. Kitchen and bathroom were very well appointed, and again, so clean! We loved our stay here and would recommend to anyone visiting Venice. The location was very convenient to St. Marks, restaurants, Vaporetto stops, and a grocery store. The air conditioning worked extremely well, and we enjoyed our afternoon siestas, cooling off, before heading back out to our sightseeing.
Nothing -- wish we had planned to stay longer!
All went smoothly and the apartment was just as described, if not better!
F. Zullo on Jul 2013:

The apartment was spotless! We really felt like we lived in a Venetian neighborhood, surrounded by locals. Christian was extremely helpful: he met us at the vaporetto stop, accompanied us to the apartment, and gave us helpful hints about places to go. Our wonderful experience in Venice is due, in great part, to our stay at Ca'Pierre. Will stay here again in the future!
The only improvement would be to add wifi.
Excellent! Cross-Pollinate made our search for an apartment easy and affordable. Will definitely use again.
Gina Barone on Jul 2013:

We loved this apartment! Great location in a real neighborhood but within minutes' walk to major sights. What a clean, peaceful and beautiful retreat! The owners are very kind and they provided delicious pastries, plus fresh milk and cold water in the fridge for our family - very thoughtful! They also gave us great directions for both the neighborhood and larger city. We had a fantastic stay. We hope to return.
Cross-Pollinate provided a great, relaxed and user-friendly experience, both for this apartment and for another we rented in Rome.
Marie on Jun 2013:

Very quiet neighborhood but close to the action. Grocery store nearby. Host was very kind and provided lots of helpful info. Roomy apartment.
For us, It was excellent. it could have had cozier furniture in the common room, didn't promote hanging out, but we were fine with it. it is a more formal apartment than we are used to. This would not be a good apartment for kids, LOTS of antiques.
First time using. A little confused with reservation process but it was a great place to stay, I'm so glad we found it. I will use cross-pollinate again, thank you!
Anna on Jun 2013:

We loved this little apartment -- it was on a quiet street but close to everything. Great space for five people (even a little breathing room) -- Very comfy!!!
Add wifi would be our only suggestions of improvement.
First time Cross-Pollinate user and was happy with the experience
Robert on Jun 2013:

This place has real character and charm, yet thoroughly modern including wifi. Home away from home in a foreign land. And comfortable beds are important and this place has them. Neighborhood feel in Venice with access to the treasures of the city. Spacious and comfortable for a full family with well appointed kitchen. Walking distance to everything central yet far enough away to feel like you are visiting a friend who lives in the city who has the inside and access to everything. One of kids is an aspiring musician and found a drop in band to play with practicing in the neighborhood. The owner's were wonderful meeting us as we walked off the vaporetto as we worked to overcome our weariness from a full days travel guiding to the door and orienting us to the Venetian world we had just entered into. The place even has history built into it as it was a residence over 1,600 years ago with antiques to match. You gotta like walking the stairs up to the place and being able to find it which can be challenging after dark.
A real good map is required to find this place once the owner sets you loose. A door sign to identify the place as you walk up every time.
We love Cross-Pollinate because it gives you the inside of a local with excellent service of a five star property
paige on May 2013:

Kitchen had everything we needed, very clean and spacious, AND had a washing machine! It was kind of cold while we were there, and the heater worked great.
The breakfast that was left for us for 4 days was merely milk, packaged croissants, and packaged cookies.
Will definitely use Cross-Pollinate again and again!
Mariana on Feb 2011:

Everything! Owner was very patient with our friends arriving late to get the key
Brighter reading lamps in the bedrooms. Wifi!
Excellent service, quick response, very helpful in finding alternatives when apartments we liked were taken.
Jana on Mar 2013:
Very spacious, no complaints!
Catherine on Jul 2011:

Spacious apartment. Very clean. Great location close to grocery store, restaurants and 10-15 minute walk to Piazza San Marco.
Provide WIFI instead of cable TV.
Cross-Pollinate is a great service with a wonderful selection of rental apartments. It's ideal accomodation for families.
Florence on Feb 2012:

The home and bedrooms are very well appointed, the bathroom is wonderfully modern, the kitchen is bright, large and well equipped. I loved the location; so close to the Riva and to Piazza San Marco.
The only improvement I would suggest is Internet or WiFi.
I often use Cross-Pollinate for accommodations in Italian cities and I find the staff efficient, timely, courteous, caring and very service-oriented.
LaJuana on Jul 2011:

The location is fantastic - an area of Venice we had not explored before. There were several good restaurants close by, and it was off the beaten path just enough that we felt like we were staying in "the real Venice" and not tourist alley. We were plenty close to St. Mark's, the vaporetto, etc. The apartment is arranged well, and SO clean! We were a family group -- grandpa, mom and dad, adult kids -- and the rooms were comfortable, gave us room for some private time, and a good gathering space for getting together. We LOVED it!
Wifi. I know, I know, it's vacation. Leave the computer alone . . . but hey, it's how we found Cross-Pollinate! It would also be helpful if each apartment had a map of sorts, or clear directions to a few *good* restaurants. We all really enjoy exploring, but some evenings you're just tired from the day and want something good that isn't touristy.
We have stayed in several Cross-Pollinate properties in Venice, as well as in Rome. Always great service. The website gives useful information, the pictures are true to the accommodations, and the prices are reasonable. Highly recommend Cross-Pollinate!
