A really great idea - with a network of hand picked little rooms/guesthouses. If only we could have this in more city destinations! - Zoe Buck
I love Cross-Pollinate and every time we go to a new city I look to see whether they have some accommodations over there. - Arantza Aldea
The two places I have stayed at from Cross-Pollinate have been among the best across Europe. Highly recommended. - Nicholas Burn
Thanks a lot to Cross-Pollinate for the opportunity to experience a city as an insider! We really enjoyed our stay in Rome and Venice and look forward to more. - Tatiana Marchenko
Cross-Pollinate was very helpful when the owner of the B&B wanted to charge us for the baby under 2 y o. It would have been difficult without them since the owners did not speak any english. - Yulia Pichugina

Cross Pollinate was just the best. I had tried a couple of places before coming upon them. As soon as I sent the first email I stopped looking for any more websites. I just wish they expanded to every city in Europe. Their knowledge, helpfulness, etc. was second to none. - Caroline Collis
Burns Guestroom
For Marisa, the gregarious owner of this B&B, her venture into tourism began when she met some Tibetan monks waiting at a bus stop one day in Rome. Although they didn't speak any English or Italian, somehow she ended up making friends with them, showing them around the city, and eventually hosting 8 of the monks in her apartment, with her sleeping in the guestroom and leaving the rest of the apartment to them. Since then, they've come back to visit every summer, and she found how much she enjoys meeting people from all over the world and hosting them at her home in Trastevere. Marisa is half-Italian and half-American and while she grew up in the US, she's lived in Rome for more than 25 years. She loves Rome and enjoys showing her guests around the city when she has time. She's also happy to point guests in the right direction as to the best places to eat, things to do, and sights to see. Her apartment building is located in Trastevere, right at the foot of the Gianicolo hill - from the top of the hill there's a magnificent view of Rome. The guestroom is simple but sunny, with a queen bed that can also be separated into 2 singles, and has its own private bathroom (with shower). Although cooking is not permitted, she allows guests to store things in the refrigerator and they're welcome to use the stove to make themselves a coffee or tea whenever they want. There's high-speed Internet hookup for those traveling with a laptop.

There is air-conditioning in the living room that, when turned on, cools down the guest room as well.

John & Cheryl on Oct 2018:

Marissa is very friendly and accommodating. Her place is very clean and comfortable. She is very pleasant to visit with and helpful with local knowledge and information.
Very efficient. Getting a driver to the airport for us was so very handy. We had no worries about travel, trains or catching planes on time for our trip home.

Comfortable with a private bath; elevator. Marissa was very accommodating and helpful with local information.
It was a little noisy on Saturday night, but closing the window did help.
Very easy and efficient.
Amy on May 2018:

The location was convenient and the room was perfect for me. Most of all, Marisa was wonderful! She was available, helpful and caring with regards to all my needs. I highly recommend a stay in Marisa’s home.
Efficient. I gave a 5 star rating, but really had no other experience other than the booking, which was very easy.
Paula & Ron on May 2016:

It was very helpful that Marisa is fluent in English and Italian. She was so kind and generous with her time. She made suggestions and even made a couple of phone calls for us. We loved staying in a quaint residential neighborhood. Room was clean and comfy and priced well. Loved our 5 days in Rome!
The only thing others should be aware of is that this neighborhood is very noisy at night. There are nice windows that block out most of the sound when closed, but we mostly kept them open to let air in. There is a/c is in an adjacent room and you could leave the door open to let some in, but then you have no privacy. It may not be sufficient cooling in summer months. But we were there in May, so it wasn't bad.
Steve was very helpful in suggesting alternative places when ones we picked were not available. Will use again anytime we visit a city that Cross-pollinate serves.

The room was a nice size and the bathroom was great. Marisa was extremely nice and welcoming. It was great to be able to talk to someone with such incredible experiences. Her home serves as a Buddhist cultural center as well, which fascinated my wife and me and certainly encouraged us to talk to Marisa and learn about a culture that neither of us are too familiar with. Marisa was extremely helpful with helping us book a taxi to the airport in the early morning hours. The price for what you are getting is exceptional and we definitely plan to re-book when we come back to Rome.
Before I list anything, I want to preface these 2 points as they were not bad for us, but want to make sure others are aware if the have never traveled to Rome or have never stayed in a B&B before. First, Marisa does not include breakfast as part of the stay. This WAS NOT an issue for my wife and I especially considering her overall accommodations and fairness of cost for the room. Just want to make sure others who are big on the breakfast part of B&Bs are not jumping into something where they would be disappointed. Our second point is the overall location. My wife and I loved the neighborhood of this location, but it is further away from the part of Rome where most of the major tourist sports are (although it is closer to the Vatican and Jewish ghetto).
Great service. Really appreciated the customer service from Cross-Pollinate with helping with the initial questions we had from using the site. Highly recommend booking through this site. Thank you so much Cross-Pollinate for making us fall in love with B&Bs.

Just to clarify about the breakfast: We do not list her place as a B&B, but rather as a guest room, to make it clearer that no breakfast is offered.

Great location (Trastevere is wonderful) and an unbelievable nice owner! Couldn't have wished for a better place! She helped me with any questions I had. I was originally supposed to land on Wednesday, but due to a flight cancellation I already came the night before (very late!), but the owner was very helpful and supportive, absolutely fantastic! Would definitely come back here!!
Cross-Pollinate was also unbelievable helpful with changing my reservations due to my flight cancellation. Quick reply and great service!! Would recommend this site to anyone! Keep up the good work!
Jon on Sep 2014:
Good neighborhood with bus connections all over Rome. Reasonable price for straightforward accommodations (two twins made up as one, straightforward bathroom with good pressure shower). Marisa has lived in Italy for decades, though grew up in Texas so speaks perfect English and can help navigate Rome/answer questions/etc.
Johan on Jun 2014:

Central location (right smack in trastevere). Friendly host. Great access. Great wifi.
The lack of AC did make the nights a tad sweaty.
Everything worked smoothly.
Admin on 14. Jul 2014:
From the owner: we could have turned on the A.C.in the living room which would have cooled the guestroom down. However, the guest never said anything to me so I thought the fan in the room was enough.
Sue on Apr 2014:

Very clean and very helpful. Nice neighborhood.
Self serve coffee in the morning would be nice.
Love cross pollinate. Great deals on accommodations.
Jan on Feb 2014:

Nice place, nice people!
Less rain would be great next time! ;-)
All worked well...

Very helpful host and great location
Tamsin on Apr 2013:

The friendliness of our hostess. She suggested excellent restaurants and places to visit. The central location in the attractive Trastevere. We were able to walk to all the major tourist attractions in Rome.
I would reccommend your site because of your quick response to our booking and the detailed information we were given.
Brittney on Apr 2013:

It was exactly what was described. Marisa was an excellent host.
Awesome! I would use them again. I would refer my friends and family to this site. So helpful.
Sabrina on Mar 2013:

I stayed at the Burns Guestroom for about two weeks and it was perfect for my purposes. I am an American who was relocating to Rome for work. The location of the apartment in Trastevere was convenient for food and transport to all parts of the city. Marisa was incredibly helpful and kind, even helping me get a mobile phone and giving me tips for local markets, good neighborhoods for finding apartments, and putting me in touch with some local available apartments. She was an amazing host and I would recommend this location for anyone who needs a short-term or longer-term stay.
The staff at Cross-Pollinate were super helpful. I was seeking longer term housing on short notice due to my employment offer and, once they learned about my situation, they suggested other available properties and locations where I could stay until I secured a permanent apartment. they were great!
