A really great idea - with a network of hand picked little rooms/guesthouses. If only we could have this in more city destinations! - Zoe Buck
I love Cross-Pollinate and every time we go to a new city I look to see whether they have some accommodations over there. - Arantza Aldea
The two places I have stayed at from Cross-Pollinate have been among the best across Europe. Highly recommended. - Nicholas Burn
Thanks a lot to Cross-Pollinate for the opportunity to experience a city as an insider! We really enjoyed our stay in Rome and Venice and look forward to more. - Tatiana Marchenko
Cross-Pollinate was very helpful when the owner of the B&B wanted to charge us for the baby under 2 y o. It would have been difficult without them since the owners did not speak any english. - Yulia Pichugina
This was our only stay with a C-P apartment and we were very pleased with the entire process. Will look to use them again on our next Europe trip! - Anthony Giglio
Great web site and quick response from the team a CP made the whole experience easy and hassle free. I have already recommended CP to quite of few of my airline industry colleagues and I'm sure they will make use of their excellent service. - Shane Pickles
Cross-Pollinate was extremely helpful! They found us a place to stay in our price range when many other places of business couldn't help us. - Sarah Seminutin
Cross-Pollinate was very easy to use, and it is so much better to stay in places like these than big corporate hotels; you get a much better feel for the place. - Kaspar Deane
Very straight forward. Well done. Definitely would use it again. Love these type of alternatives to hotels! - John White
Cross-Pollinate was fantastic and easy to use. We used Cross-Pollinate to book a room in Florence (the second leg of our trip), which was everything I thought it would be. We have recommended Cross-Pollinate to our friends. - Barbara Carlin
Cross-Pollinate are great - the descriptions are accurate and they are very responsive to questions. - Dominique Bayne
Cross Pollinate was just the best. I had tried a couple of places before coming upon them. As soon as I sent the first email I stopped looking for any more websites. I just wish they expanded to every city in Europe. Their knowledge, helpfulness, etc. was second to none. - Caroline Collis
Vacanze Romane B & B
Vacanze Romane B&B is a simple, well-kept B&B in the Termini area, a couple blocks from Basilica Santa Maria Maggiore and just down the street from Piazza Vittorio. The location is convenient for getting around the city by bus or Metro, and the Colosseum is only a 15-minute walk away. This two-room B&B is decorated in a traditional style and has double-paned windows so it stays quiet inside. The bathroom is shared between the two rooms and the manager of the B&B, Maria, who also lives in the apartment with her cat. Guests receive breakfast vouchers daily for a nearby cafe (except on Sundays).

Please note that even though the rooms are non-smoking, the owners, in their private area of the apartment, do smoke, so if you're particularly sensitive it might be problematic.
  • fan
  • double glazed windows
  • breakfast voucher (at nearby cafe) included
  • with elevator
  • linen and towels provided
  • TV
  • 1st and 3rd floor
  • WiFi
Susan Kewin on Oct 2014:

Closeness to the metro. Market across the street. Breakfast in the morning. Comfortable bed. Security of building.
Would like hot water maker in room to have instant coffee without leaving building. Would be nice to get breakfast tickets the night before instead of waking up host. Lawn chairs available to be able to sit outside in courtyard behind building.
Very easy to communicate with Cross Pollinate. Response was quick via email. I had another room under my name, but two of my friends stayed there, so I'm not reviewing for them.
Louise Lawton on Oct 2014:

The man (owner?) was very friendly and nice to me and my son, even though we didnt speak any Italian. Everything was clean and tidy. Nice bathrooms
Breakfast is not really good enough. Serving it in the B&B kitchen would be better. Or choose a better Trattoria with more choices. Also the road noise made it difficult to sleep and I think I was slightly overcharged for the final night, but i was so tired I didn't care!
Great service from Amy- she couldn't do enough and always answered my emails, even at the weekend. Would have liked to have stayed in the Beehive but was told late arrivals weren't welcome- bit of a shame.
Beverly W on May 2014:

The location was good. Clean. We reserved a room with 2 single beds and got a double.
Some difficulty communicating, but everything worked out.
Lewis Butler on May 2014:

The people at Vacanze Romane were very nice and helpful. I will recommend them to anyone.
I wasn't informed about an extra fee until I got there. It increased the price around 25 dollars. it wasn't much. The B&B isn't at the Hostel. They give you a ticket for a cafeteria around the block which consists of a croissant, hard toast, butter, jelly and coffee.
It was a good experience. It was my first time and I can well recommend them.
Admin on 18. May 2014:
The extra charge fee was Rome's tourist tax which was in the confirmation letter and on the site, but the guest hasn't seen it - he confirmed this too after we received this review.
Dane DeKrey on Dec 2013:

The location, the spacious room, the cleanliness, and the kind and helpful hosts.
The wifi is unreliable.
Great experience; will use again for next vacation, and will recommend to friends!
Maddy MacDonald on Jul 2013:
Owner of the B&B was very friendly and helpful. The bedroom we had was cute and had old Italian movie posters decorating the walls. The location was great, right next to the subway and in walking distance of the Colosseum and the rest of Ancient Rome.
Emilie on Jun 2013:

Fantastic location, we walked everywhere and was easy to find. Big bed, fans and very comfortable room. The owner was very sweet and kind, he even helped us with a map to draw out our own walking tour. Speaks Italian and a little French. Breakfast in the morning is a plus, very good value for money all in all.
Maybe air conditioning, but the fans were adequate and we slept absolutely fine.
Cross-pollinate is a fantastic concept and I would definitely use it again for finding city holiday accommodation. Alternative to Hostels and much nicer way to stay in the city if travelling alone or as a couple.
Kathleen Rainwater on Jun 2013:

The hosts were wonderful and very accommodating. The room was very clean and comfortable and the price was terrific for a place in Rome!
Terrific - definitely recommending your site to my friends and will use you again for international travel!
Joshua on Jun 2013:

Big room, good location, reasonably facilities, friendly hosts. Good value for money.
Good communication. No problems at all.
John on May 2013:

The owners were very sweet... just very kind people, you could tell right away. The rooms were cozy and had neat vintage decorations
The wifi was pretty much unusable in my room, it would come and go and if I needed to use it without interruption I had to stand in the hallway. This could have had more to do with the strength of my phone than the network itself though...
A wonderful website that I will use again for sure!
RACHEL on May 2013:

Reasonable price, good location, great home base for exploring Rome. Our host was very friendly (although we could only understand about 40% of the Italian). Also, the cat was very friendly and paid us a nice visit.
The shower is weird, both because the toilet is in the same stall, and also because the water mostly dribbles. Also, you have to take short showers due to the small water heater. Not a huge inconvenience for us, though.
Worked well - easy to make a reservation.
Katherine on May 2013:

Clean and pretty room in a secure building. Very sweet people.
Short showers recommended due to small capacity of water eater :). Not very good wifi
Accurate directions and description
Grania on May 2013:

Good location, friendly atmosphere, helpful and accomodating hosts. Clean, tidy and well looked after as well as being "interesting" thanks to a collection of hollywood posters, old toys and tins.
Wider beds and tea/coffee facilities (even joint facilities in a communal area such as the entrance hall).
Very positive. Easy to use, easy to book, good value accomodation.
Paula on Mar 2011:

The decorations, the atmosphere in the house, the family setting
Breakfast was a small walk, that's not too bad, but we didn't like the taste, the place, the atmosphere. Cafe around the corner was much better.
Antonina on Apr 2011:

It was affordable and clean. Close to the metro.
The listing failed to mention there was a cat in the apartment. My fiancee joined us later in the trip, he is allergic to cats. This could have presented a problem.
Cross-Pollinate is very helpful. I will always refer to Cross Pollinate when looking for a place to stay.
Cheryll on May 2011:

The location was great. They gave us a "ticket" to use at a nearby coffee place to get a fantastic croissant and coffee instead of breakfast in the home. We loved it. Simple, clean, and friendly.
The bathroom was an experience! The toilet was in a raised area with the shower. Definitely a challenge to go to the bathroom without getting your pants wet after taking a shower.
I thought this was great! We couldn't have found somewhere cheaper and we felt safe the entire time. Staying in local neighborhoods was a great experience, too!
Joseph on May 2012:
Maria was very nice to stay with and her grandson, Simone, could speak English and was very helpful.
Aicher on Mar 2011:
nice and sweet staff. we felt like home!
Yulia on Jun 2011:

Location was good, place was nicely decorated and clean, also the price was was very reasonable compare with other options.
Last year the owners lived on premises and they were arguing even in the nighttime. It did not bother me because we were out all day long, but my mom did not feel comfortable in such psychological climate. Maybe the situation has changed this year: "the manager of the B&B, Maria, who also lives in the apartment with her cat."
Cross-Polinate was very helpfull when the owner of the B&B wanted to charge us for the baby under 2 y o. It would be dificult withot them since the owners did not speak any english.
roxanne on May 2012:

Clean comfortable Convenient safe and quiet.
A lovely expereince to stay in a home and see what it's like compared to our north American homes. Also using cross pollinate twice on our trip proved to be extremely reliable and user friendly.
Eric on Jun 2012:

the owner was super nice and sweet. A really great experience.
Cross-Polinate allowed us to find a place to stay for very little money in a perfect location. Thanks!
David on May 2011:

Decent location and value for area
Owner did not speak English and smoked within apartment. Actual experience and cleanliness was far from listing on site.
Hoped that site run by fellow Americans would understand and cater to some of the features that makes traveling outside US easier, but that was not the case.
alexia on Apr 2012:

Vam estar molt agust, el pis es acollidor i el propietari una persona entranyable. El metro a dos minuts. Perfecte per estades com la nostra de 4 dies.
EL bany.
Cap comentari, tot va anar rodat.
Alex on Aug 2012:

Good location, not to far to walk to all the main attractions. Comfortable bed, very friendly hosts. Didn't speak any english, but we had great fun communicating what was needed.
Cross-Pollinate staff were very helpful in finding us accomodation when our first option wasn't available. Better value than staying in a hostel and got to stay in a real persons apartment in Rome. More truthful experience.
Nathalie on Apr 2011:
Near the metro, quiet room and good taste
corinne on Apr 2011:

Location; included breakfast at local coffee shop; quirkiness.
Owner said she couldn't speak Englsih but we doubted this. Made communication difficult at times. Mix-up with shared bathroom - she 'gave' it to another couple without telling us and we had to use hers.
You were patient and helpful and answered our many questions with a personal touch. Thanks!
Rudi on Jun 2011:
The owners of the home were constantly annoyed that we were there. I will never go back.
Eric on Jun 2011:

This was a great location. Clean and comfortable. While there are multiple rooms, we were the only ones staying at Vacanze Romane. An added bonus was that the owners gave us cards for coffee and a danish at a coffee shop around the block.
It is sort of difficult to find. We actually asked for help on the street from neighbors because there is no sign outside.
We love it! Thanks so much for an easy and enjoyable experience.
Andrea on Apr 2011:

I stayed here almost two years ago, and it was very decent. The owners were out of town, so their son let us in. It was very clean and quiet, and it was walking distance to the subway station. We received vouchers for a cafe around the corner for breakfast, and we had no issues using the vouchers. I would stay here again.
Good experience!
