A really great idea - with a network of hand picked little rooms/guesthouses. If only we could have this in more city destinations! - Zoe Buck
I love Cross-Pollinate and every time we go to a new city I look to see whether they have some accommodations over there. - Arantza Aldea
The two places I have stayed at from Cross-Pollinate have been among the best across Europe. Highly recommended. - Nicholas Burn

Cross Pollinate was just the best. I had tried a couple of places before coming upon them. As soon as I sent the first email I stopped looking for any more websites. I just wish they expanded to every city in Europe. Their knowledge, helpfulness, etc. was second to none. - Caroline Collis
Millefiori Guestrooms
Millefiori used to be part of The Beehive Hotel - we rented them as our own, off-site guestrooms. In the same building lives Assunta Flora, who owns L'Altra Luna, which is another property further down the street. Since we found her a perfectly hospitable and professional host, we decided to turn the management over to her so guests would have easier access to staff and someone could be more responsible to its upkeep.

Millefiori was always the "funkier" of our apartments. It was once destined to be an artist's studio for Polish born painter, Alessandro Kokocinsky. He painstakingly stripped the walls of decades worth of paint to reveal the original turn of the century interior. Millefiori has 3 large, simple, cool and quiet bedrooms, a nice sized living room/dining room with kitchen area and a computer that's always on-line and free to use. There are two recently renovated bathrooms with shower for the three guest rooms.

Located near Rome's largest fruit and vegetable market and the Piazza Vittorio metro station, it's a good place for someone who wants easy access from Termini, and wants to combine an affordable private room with the ability to cook and socialize with others.

The cleanliness of the bathroom is something I'm very particular about, and one of the reasons why I'm hesitant to stay in shared bathroom places. But the showers and bathrooms in Millefiori were cleaned daily, and I was very impressed.
Cross-Pollinate has a surprisingly clear website layout, and I found the staff really helpful when we had any questions.

Assunta was very helpful when we arrived in Rome. She provided us with ideas and walking distances for sites around town. She was also very easy to get in contact with via email and/or phone. The place was all we needed. Rooms were basic but clean. Great people shared the common space with us which made comparing notes at night more enjoyable.
Was very efficient and quick to response even with last minute bookings.

The room was huge, the computer and internet access was helpful, and the staff (Assunta) could not have been nicer and more helpful.
Nothing that I can think of.
It was an excellent service. The staff were very helpful and went out of their way not only with arranging my accommodations but with arranging for a taxi to pick up my family at the airport (we arrived after the last train left).

Loved having a kitchen and two bathrooms available. Next time I would love to have more time to prepare a meal or two with all the fabulous produce available nearby. We were fortunate that the young women we shared the place with were only there one of our 4 nights, so then we had the whole place to ourselves and it felt very luxurious. Loved being able to get to know Assunta -- what a lovely lady. And her recommendation of the gelateria nearby was much appreciated. The location is great -- especially since I knew that we could come out the side of the train station rather than walking all the way to the front and backtracking. Loved having a computer and wi-fi available -- first time we'd been able to use it in two weeks. Loved being able to open the windows and listen to life in Rome. Loved the size of the room -- especially for four of us. By comparison our room in London (not booked through you) was barely bigger than the footprint of two beds.
I was okay with the bed, but my husband and sons found them quite uncomfortable.
I will definitely be using you again. Thanks for all you do.

Excellent location and within walking distance of train station. The room and the shared kitchen were clean and well maintained. Assunta was also very friendly and also gave excellent recommends of restaurants and gelota locations.I would recommend anyone staying here to visit Fassi for an excellent dessert.
The only small inconvenience was that the hot water in the bathroom showers were not of the same temperature consistently and we had to keep adjusting the knobs constantly. A small inconvenience but an excellent experience overall. I would stay at this home again.

I loved the light, bright apartment- high ceilings, large room. We only stayed 1 night, shared with 2 other families. 2 full bathrooms, nice kitchen/ common area, easy walk from Termini.
The 1 night we stayed there were 3 families for a total of 8 people sharing the apartment. Not sure, but may be too many people at one time for comfort.
Very good, helpful, bookings made easily, quickly.

The adequate kitchen, the daily clean up person, the proximity to Termini, 2 bathrooms, 3 markets close by, Wifi, artsy feel, and the most pleasant hostess Assunta.
Fans in rooms for the warm evenings.
Fast, courteous and professional. Loved being able to find a small family business that kept things neat and tidy. Couldn't have done that without Beehive on such a tight budget.

Glad you had a good stay. There are fans there - you might have to ask for them though since you were there in February, they probably didn't imagine they'd be wanted/needed.
Zarah on 02. Mar 2013:

We really appreciated the large room with the large bed, the newly renovated bathrooms and the very friendly owner! They had always time for our concerns.
No possibility to print (for example a ticket for the museum..)
Easy, secure, fast and we'll use it again.

We liked having an apartment-like stay in Rome, with kitchen, large dining room and computer available to use + wifi. I felt it was in a good location. I had heard that it's 'rough' near the train station, but that's false. It is an area of lots of ethnicity other than Italians, which I did not feel was dangerous at all. It was convenient to many subway stops and walking to the market a couple of blocks away (fresh food to cook and very cheap). Some of the other guests were friendly so we had an exchange of a few stories and advice. I also liked having the guest book with advice (it was in the dining room). Your guest house manager (cannot remember her name now) was very kind, helpful and super-sweet with my son! The beds were comfy and room large, very spacious.
hot water management. very weird that sometimes the water goes cold, sometimes the entire shower was warm/hot and reasonable, but it made no sense when it would be hot or lose hot water. Our price was quite expensive (35/person), even compared to two others staying in the next room a couple nights later (25 or 28/night). I guess it's all about availability, but that kind of sucks that we paid so much more then they did for the exact same thing at the same time - and we stayed a few days longer!
Cross-pollinate is a good name, as we met others and did not sit in a sterile hotel room, isolated from other travelers.

The apartment was charming, clean, close to the train station, and secure.
We were so happy with our stay and the assistance we got from the Beehive staff in picking it. I would definitely stay there again!

the very large clean rooms ,the artworks added on ,very near train station, value for money. Both my daughters 8 and 17 loved the place.

Steve + lady who checked us in very helpfull
Noah on 06. Aug 2012:

Spacious, kind reception, fairly quiet in the heart of Rome, pleasant temperature on one of the hottest days of the summer (without need for air conditioning!), free internet (slow, but I needed it!). Excellent rates (not the cheapest place solo, but easily among the cheapest as a couple, with a beautiful and clean private room and use of a clean kitchen shared with only 2 other rooms.
Communication: I did not have a phone and wasn\'t able to contact the person to let me in for about 30 minutes (used the phone at the cafe next door, so not a huge problem).
requiring commitment by credit card before knowing whether there were rooms available was not appreciated, and is very hard for last-minute reservations. But they are readily available by phone, which made it much simpler.
John on 04. Aug 2012:

The location is great in terms of proximity to the train station and other metro needs. It is within walking distance of the main sites of ancient Rome. The lady who let us in was incredibly helpful with mapping out the area and filling us in on safety tips and how to navigate the city. She also educated us on the historical informatiin of this very buulding which is fascinating. There is a very good grocery store close by and a fantastic gelato cafe. The kitchen is very well equipped and the main sitting area is spacious and pleasant. The bedrooms are a good size and quiet. Excellent price for what you get!
The only room that is a little iffy for a feel of good hygiene is the bathroom. The shower area in particular is not as hygienic as it should be. The area looks questionable .. particularly at night. But we were assured it was very safe .. and so it was!
Cross-Pollinate was fantastic with giving us options within our stated price range. They were prompt with communications and answering questions. High recommendations!

The bathroom is actually getting redone entirely in January 2013!
