Casa Garbatella
For most people coming to Rome for the first time, the area around Termini or the historic center is the most sought after as it's easy and convenient from there to visit all the sites. Normally, if a property is outside these areas we shy away from it. However, we couldn't resist this apartment because we really like the neighborhood and think that for someone who has been to Rome before and wants to discover the hidden, "real" side of the city, this is the ideal place to do it from. Also, though it's farther out than many of our properties, it's still well-connected by public transport, being only 3 metro stops from the Colosseum (5 minutes), and 5 metro stops from Termini station (10 minutes).

Built between the '20s and '30s, this neighborhood was the oldest urban development project in the city, designed for blue-collar workers and originally planned to connect to a port that would bring goods in by way of Ostia from the sea (which was ultimately never created). The buildings, usually no more than 3 storeys, are typically built around large courtyards that serve as communal space for the residents for everything from laundry drying to storing their wine in cantinas. With a small town feel to it, it's a great place to take a stroll on the narrow, winding streets, get lost on purpose, watch kids playing in the small piazzas and shopkeepers hanging out outside their front doors, and take in the architecture of the unusually small apartment buildings and independent villas. Restaurants are cheap and good and menus are in Italian only, not multilingual to cater to tourists.

The apartment itself is located in one of a series of buildings that all share the same big green, open courtyard. The owner rents her place out when she's not in town, so it has a lived-in, homey feel to it. There's one bedroom, which has a queen-sized bed, and in the living room there is also a sofa that opens up into a comfortable double bed in case of a third or fourth person. The sunny living room is elegantly decorated with antiques, hardwood floors, richly patterned throw rugs, and tasteful art. There is an eat-in kitchen complete with cooking utensils, a dishwasher, and even a comfortable leather sofa, making it a second area for socializing and relaxing. The owner also leaves basics like oil, sugar, tea, and coffee for guests to use.

The apartment at Garbatella is our first choice of places to stay when visiting Rome. The neighborhood feel, easy access to good food and coffee is exactly what a traveler requires. The apartment has everything needed, it's just like home. Laura is very accommodating and provides attention to detail. Rome is 2 stops on the subway, very close. If you want to actually live in Rome, this is the place.
Garbatella is perfect as it is, nothing to improve.
Cross-Pollinate has been our choice of travel accommodations for years. It's always been spot on, very trustworthy. Steve helped me arrange apartments for ourselves and family this year. Immediate communication made reserving several apartments in the same area simple. I appreciate your help Steve, Thank You, Cassandra

Staying there was like staying with a dear friend. It had a welcoming feel about the whole place. The beds were so comfortable (I had the lounge). The owner showed us everything we needed and had printed information, maps and ideas to help us with our stay. The area was quiet and like living in a small village but only a short walk and 5 stops on the metro from Central Rome. I thank you for opening your beautiful home to us.
Sadly the Internet was not working but the beautiful little bar across the road had wifi, friendly staff, good food and wifi. It added to the experience going there each night.
Really easy to be in touch. Quick replies and helpful information. Good job guys and thanks.

This was the perfect apartment for my stay in Rome! It's off the beaten track, away from all the tourists in a pretty and peaceful but vibrant neighbourhood that's authentically Italian. But it's still easy to get into central Rome to see all the sights you want to. The owner Laura was absolutley lovely and incredibly helpful. There were very few downsides to staying here at all.
The only problem I found was the mattress in the main bedroom was a little uncomfortable.
Really helpful, quick and efficient. A great selection of accommodation to choose from across the city.

Beautiful apartment in a great neighbourhood away from the bustle of Rome, but a quick and easy train ride to all the main sites. Owner was very considerate and provided helpful reading material and guides to the local area and the attractions of Rome.
The only thing really missing was access to internet, which was not working during our visit.
Couldn't ask for better service - many thanks to Steve for tracking down a wonderful place for us to stay in Rome!

We just come from Rome and we want to share with you that we are very satisfy with our rental at casa Garbatella through your organisation. The flat is very pleasant, in a very quiet and typical site and Mrs Natili is a very nice person who helps a lot to organize the Rome Tour, she speaks a good french.
Nothing Stay like that !
I recommand this organisation !

I enjoyed very much to stay in this place. The house is very comfortable and welcoming, full of art, according to Rome specific :); I really felt like home there. The host is helpful and discreet, a very nice person. The neighbourhood is peaceful and relaxing, away from the noise and crowd of the center, but well connected to the city.
The website helped me to find a good place easily and provided sufficient information to make a decision.
