Appartamento Sant'Andrea
This is a great budget option with a lot of positives and only a few negatives. The first obvious positive is the location. It's just off the main road that runs through the historic center, Corso Vittorio Emanuele, at the church of Sant'Andrea a few blocks from both Campo dei Fiori and Piazza Navona in an historic building from about the 1600's.

The second big plus is that it's quiet, with windows on both sides of the apartment, making it light and breezy, but both sides facing interior courtyards so there's no street noise.

Third, there's a great little terrace off the main bedroom upstairs.

As for negatives, they are relative: the kitchen is very small (although functional) and I wouldn't want to be put to task to have to prepare a huge gourmet meal in it. The place is old, in my opinion in a charming way. Still well cleaned, but showing the years and the fact that it's occupied pretty much with back to back rentals. However, for the price, you won't come close to the amount of space and comfort in a hotel nearby, especially if you're 4-6 people.

There's an elevator that brings you the floor above or the floor below, so there are a few steps down to the flat. Once inside, you go down a few steps into the living room. Off to one side is one bedroom and the small kitchen. Up the set of stairs is a bathroom, master bedroom, and the terrace.

James Smith on May 2016:

Loved the location! Tony (host) is a very nice, helpful man. We enjoyed a little terrace time every day. Big, comfortable bed in the 2nd floor bedroom.
The bathroom & kitchen would benefit from a little paint & updating. This is not a complaint - just a tip for fellow travelers: If you are a light sleeper bring earplugs (we always do). There are 2 convenient restaurants downstairs that dispose of the bottles either late at night or early morning.
I've said it before and I'll say it again - since 2009 Steve always patiently and accurately steers us to a variety of very good accomodations suited to our price range. We've never been disappointed - just pleasantly surprised!
Robert on Aug 2015:
Tony was there waiting for us in the apartment. He got us settled in and gave us a list of nearby shops and restaurants. The apartment is perfectly situated in the middle of Rome. The apartment was very clean and adequate for our needs. It was the perfect home base for us to explore Rome. A number of bus routes passed by the apartment and it was easy to get to the Vatican, the Coliseum and many other popular sites. However, the apartment was quiet at night and it was easy to forget that you were in the middle of the city. The patio was pleasant for sitting on in the evening. The elevator (lift) was also a handy thing to be able to get the luggage in and out of the building. We were very happy staying there and we appreciate Tony's hospitality.
Karen on Aug 2015:

Tony met us at the apartment and did a quick orientation. He was also helpful in pre-planning suggesting vendors for transportation and luggage storage. The location was convenient as we were able to walk to all of the key sites in Rome. The area was safe and the apartment was as expected.
Just a reminder that there is no air conditioning.
Sejal on Aug 2015:
Tony was great with communication. He accommodated our late arrival which was due to a delayed train. The apartment is very centrally located. It is walking distance to everything; 20 minutes to the Coliseum, 20 minutes to the Vatican. A grocery store is a couple of minutes away.
