Ecostudio Trastevere
Ecostudio Trastevere is a perfect getaway for those who want to live the quintessential 'Trastevere' experience. Cozy, intimate, and very Roman!

As of March 2014, the studio has been entirely renovated using only ecological materials and a new water heater means unlimited hot water. We also use ecological detergent for cleaning and laundry, trying to limit impact on the environment as much as possible.

Located in the heart of Trastevere, on the second floor of a typical historic XVII century building. Surprisingly silent (set on a pedestrian street, its windows and balcony leading out to the courtyard) the studio has been renovated a few years back (maintaining its characteristic charm, of course!) and is very well looked after. Upon entering you'll find yourself in a small corridor, then an open space living room with (working!) fire place, a double sofa bed, table and chairs. In an area separated from the main part is the 'bedroom' area with double bed. On the other side of the room, there's a bathroom (with bathtub) leading out to a small sunny balcony (facing the courtyard and equipped with chairs and a small table) Exposed wood-beam ceiling, real parquet flooring, a tiny but well equipped kitchenette, a Tv & Dvd-Set, a Microwave, Air conditioner, independent heating, Wi-fi Internet, towels and sheets, it's all there, as well as books for you to read, maps, information on the city.

Air conditioning keeps the apartment nice and cool in the summer while the fireplace and bathtub provide special charm during the colder months there is gas-heating, too)!

The neighborhood:

Trastevere is a historic neighborhood just across the river from the more conventional "Centro storico" of Rome. The Tiber river and two of Trastevere's most famous squares, Piazza Trilussa and Piazza Santa Maria in Trastevere, are each only about a 2 minute walk from the studio, and crossing one of the many bridges you'll be at Campo de' Fiori, Piazza Navona and the Pantheon in no time (less than 30 minutes by foot). Other sites such as the Vatican (about 40 minutes by foot or an easy bus ride), Castel S. Angelo and the Colosseum are also within easy reach.
The neighborhood used to be "blue-collar", and still today there's only small houses (most of them dating back to the XVII century) and cobblestone streets. It's what you imagine Rome to be: narrow streets, old little houses, Romantic piazzas (with warm orange street lights at night!), little cafes and restaurants, Roman lifestyle and of course (especially during high season) some tourists (how could they miss out on such a gem!). It's a nice mixture of 'real' and 'touristy' Rome, and definitely very picturesque. There's also a lot of cultural events happening in the neighborhood (exhibitions, small movie theaters and theaters),  and interesting little unconventional shops all around.

on Jun 2018:

I like the apartment location and the ease of access. The apartment was small (it is stated as an economy) but worked well for the time we were there.
The cleanliness of the apartment was a little surprising. Cleaning was done prior to our arrival. The kitchen was obviously well used and the pots / pans / utensils had to be re-washed before use. Overall it was like being at a friends house where you do not mind a few germs, but is was not clean to hotel standards.

Laura was fantastic! She arranged for multiple pick ups through out our stay even after we left her beautiful apartment. If you are looking for wonderful experience in Roma this place will deliver.
Always helpful and communicates very well.

Perfect location in the heart of Trastevere.
Can't be improved but almost no sound buffering at all. You could hear every time anyone around you did anything.
Always have had a good experience (this is the third time), always reasonably priced accommodation in great locations.

Wood beamed ceiling, homey feel with nice art prints, nice window view over rooftops, very quiet for the area , good location, very helpful and conscientious owner, tiny outdoor terrace but workable for two!
Few minor things like more bulbs for empty light sockets(a little dim after dark) . Kitchen is very small but stocked well with utensils, etc. Low priority for us as eating out in Rome, especially Travestere, is mandatory!
Very smooth, timely, and seamless efficiency! Would definitely use again

The apartment was beautiful and in a great location in Rome! We felt like we were getting to experience a different side of Rome than just the typical tourist attractions. Even though it was a bit further away from a lot of the sites, everything was in short walking distance, and even the walks through this neighborhood were great! The owners have a booklet there with suggestions and we found the restaurant suggestions that we tried to be excellent. We had a few problems while we were there and when we emailed the owner she was quick to get back to us.
Maybe a bit more communication about who we give our money to on arrival. Additionally the air conditioning which we paid the extra money for was not working to cool the apartment at all and the temperature when we were there was in the mid to high 90's. During our stay it only blew room temperature air around the apartment despite what temperature we had it set at. We did communicate this with the owner who was helpful and offered suggestions and offered to get it looked at, which we recommended they should. Also they do clearly state that they use eco-friendly detergent for the laundry so some stains may be present but everything is cleaned and sanitized. My only criticism is that while they may be clean, the towels feel and look very old and well used and the stains present on the linens are quite off-putting.
It was our first time using Cross-Pollinate. We found the service to be quick and easy to use.

The apartment is in a fantastic location - easy walking to the Colosseum, Forum, Vatican, Pantheon, etc; steps away from good restaurants and bars. Comfy, cosy and quiet apartment. Everything there that we required, down to a hairdryer. Good wifi (important for our teenager!)
Top bracket for shower.
Very good information provided throughout. I particularly appreciated the detailed directions for getting to the apartment.

The location is really great. You can walk to most sites and Trastevere has many great restaurants. although we never met Laura, she was attentive and responsive to all of our emails and questions. Having a (small) kitchen was also convenient as we could have breakfast in the suite. The pictures are a true representation of the suite. It's a reasonable and practical choice.
The suite could be better identified (it's located directly at the top of the second floor stairs behind an unmarked door). The pillows are very hard and the hot water is minimal (we were in Rome on a cold and rainy weekend, so a warm shower was really desired. There is hot water but the water heater has a small capacity.)
Cross Pollinate helped us find and book this place when our first choice didn't work out. They answered all of our questions and made the booking experience pretty seemless.
Admin on 13. Apr 2015:
The water heater holds 90 liters of water, which is certainly enough for 2 showers!

Great location and apartment for the price.
Softer bed.
Denise and Bill Wilde on Oct 2014:

This studio apartment has a great location in the centre of a great neighborhood and to our surprise it is very quiet inside the space. The ceiling is wood which added a nice element.
Unfortunatly, we found the space quite dirty. Soiled entrance rug with a broken wood show shelf. The kitchen dish drain cupboard was quite gross. The shower current came tumbling down with the slightest pull on the curtain. The bed is a little soft. We were there for 4 nights and given only one towel and hand towel. This little place has so much potential and it would not be hard to make the place cleaner and add more care to it. Although the owner contacted us several times before we arrived we never heard from them once we did arrive. The apartment is quite a good deal, but I would have been happy to pay a little more for a clean place. That being said, I would stay there again! One nice thing that happened is I washed a favorite shirt and hung it on the tiny balcony. When we returned for the evening it had been been blown away with the windy day. I thought I would never see that shirt again but it showed up in the front hallway a few days later!
We did not need to contact Cross-Pollinate or the owner as we felt we just wanted to enjoy our time and not make a fuss. Which we did.

We love Trastevere, and Ecostudio is perfectly located 2 minutes from Ponte Sisto, close to major bus lines. The apartment is accurately described on the site. It was comfortable and had everything we needed for a great week. Laura reached out to us ahead of time, and although she herself couldn't great us, she had someone us at the apartment when we arrived. We would rent Ecostudio again.
Providing a few things like handsoap, paper towels, coffee would be a nice touch, but that was very minor. We might suggest a small fan for the sleeping area.
This was our 3rd or 4th time using Cross-Pollinate, and we recommend it to everyone. We trust the descriptions and selection of owners.

I really enjoyed my stay at the studio. It was extremely cozy and it felt like home.
We wanted to book Studio della Scala again once we returned back to Rome after traveling but we were unable to book for only two days.
Working with Cross-Pollinate was great! I would definitely use it again in the future!!
Edith and Juergen on Sep 2013:

the location in an old historic buliding, situated quite central in old Trastevere, the tiny balcony with víew over the roofs of rome, the warm colours of the furniture, completely furnished, though it´s situated in the heart of a highly frequented place, it´s quiet. When we´ll return to Rome, we´ll choose Studio della Scala again
nothing
We were content with Cross- pollinate - it´s quite uncomplicated. There is one thing to improve. Payment isn't always possible with credit card. Nowadays other methods should be allowed f.e PayPal
