The great thing about this apartment is that it's basically located right in front of the famous "Porta Portese" market, the biggest flea market in Rome that takes place every Sunday. So if you've come to Rome because you're a mercato afficionado, then this is where you'd want to rent.
The area is usually referred to as "between Trastevere, Monteverde and Testaccio". It's not actually Trastevere in the sense of 'right across' the river'; it's about a 15-minute walk away from there. The Trastevere train station is just around the corner, though (convenient for the train from/to airport), and the tramway number 8 which runs very frequently and takes you to Via Arenula (heart of the historic center) is also just a few minutes away. This is not quite the historic city center, but it's close and very well-connected.
The apartment itself has a few funky details such as the doors (decorated with shells and stones by the owner). Overall, it's well taken care of but NOT recently renovated (thus the good price). It's colorful and spacious enough for up to 4 people (double bed and double sofabed), with air-conditioning, a large flat-screen TV, fully equipped kitchen (stocked with cooking utensils, oil, breakfast items, etc) and a dining area. It's on the ground floor so the windows look out to the sidewalk and street. You might hear a bit of traffic noise. Supermarkets, restaurants, gelaterie and everything you'll need are within easy reach.
