Lapa 56 is a mid-nineteenth century building totally renovated in 2011 with 2 short term rental apartments of one bedroom each, with fold-out sofa beds that are good for children - accommodating up to 4 person each and a good option for groups of up to 8 people.
With an east facing facade and a courtyard to the west, the apartments are comfortable and light, furnished and decorated with a mix of antique and modern furniture, whilst retaining some of the original features of the era, such as hanging lamps, wood floors and mosaic tiles.
The calm residential district of Lapa - Estrela is of Lisbon’s oldest neighbourhoods, and a good base from which to discover the authentic atmosphere of the city, starting from the quintessentially Portuguese cafe and restaurant on the ground floor below the apartments!
The apartments are located a short walk away from the 18th century Basilica and the Jardim da Estrela – a romantic public garden with ponds, lawns and shady centenary trees as well as a charming cafes and a restaurant. Spring to Autumn, the Jardim da Estrela offers a full agenda of entertainment (mostly free of cost) including outdoor cinema, jazz concerts and collectors fairs.
A few meters away, is the start of the famous Tram 28 route, taking you all the way to other historic quarters such as Alfama and Castelo as well as the must-not-miss, twice weekly flea market of Feira da Ladra; whilst Santos and Bairro Alto, the area’s best known for their nightlife are within walking distance (or a short taxi ride).
Trains from Cais do Sodré station (a 15 minute walk away or you can go by tram/taxi) to Cascais on the west coast, are a picturesque way to get to the best beaches near the Portuguese capital. They run daily, departing every 15-20 minutes and take no more than ½ hour to reach its final destination, there are however quite a few nice beach stops before – just take your pick! The area is also well serviced by buses and it is a 10 minute walk to the underground station of Rato.
Both apartments 1D and 1E are located on the first floor and feature a living room with double sofa bed and east facing balcony; an open plan double bedroom (slightly larger in 1D); a bathroom; a kitchen/dinner (slightly larger in 1E); plus a rear courtyard set out for outdoor dining.
Each apartment is equipped with entry phone, air conditioning, electric water heater, cable TV with international channels, free wifi internet, electric stove, microwave oven, fridge, toaster, juice maker, electric kettle & coffee maker; ironing board & iron.
