Owned by Paola and Francesco of Il Ghiro next door, they bought what was an old pension and completely gutted it out and redid it. It's 7 rooms, 6 with private ensuite bathroom and 1 that has a private, dedicated bathroom outside the room. There is also a little kitchen area, ideal for keeping breakfast items or things to make simple picnic lunches. There's also a computer for guest use and WiFi throughout. The overall vibe is really good -- it's clean and new and minimalist, but without the "cold" feeling that often goes with minimalism. In fact, they've done a very good job of matching old materials with new, youthful color schemes. So there are white, hardwood floors and exposed beam ceilings painted white, with bold, colorful walls and simple furniture. Not swanky or pretentious, but not boring and soulless either.

The owners are helpful, professional, family-friendly and very involved.

The location is near Via Faenza, an area that is close enough to the train station Santa Maria Novella that it's easy to get in and out of the city, but also close enough to the sights in the center that you can walk everywhere. The streets are narrow and the feeling is of 'old Florence' but it's also a neighborhood known for hostels, inexpensive pensions and budget travelers, so it's well-serviced. You'll find stuff open and inexpensive things to eat here.
